SBmom, Congratulations! But which ED2 LAC is the lucky one?

berurah's son~

School: Yale
Result: rejected EA
Accepted: JHU (Hodson Trust Scholarship), Duke, UPenn, UMich Honors, UMiami (Bowman Foster Ashe Scholarship), KU

Will be attending: most likely JHU~the Hodson Trust Scholarship is a compelling carrot!

YAY, Berurah, looks like decision was made.....JHU is a great school!

achat...we're about 85% there with our decision! Still workin' on the last 15%.....lol He's becoming seriously excited at the prospects of such vast opportunities in his area of interest though! ~b.

Berurah, JHU is wonderful. I did not mean to give a wrong impression. Just what I've heard word-of-mouth from someone (my son) who's never been interested in JHU.

I've visited the Hopkins Art museum and it is pretty impressive. I liked the waterfront. And you know, the Oceanography museum (I don't remember what it's called, getting senile here) is great!

Yes, I agree, this thread is truly inspirational. I hope the next year's lot (c/o 2010) finds this too!!! I want them to see this :D
..And know that dreams DO come true.. and everything works out in the end, with a bit of hard work, a bit of faith and a lil bit of patience :)

Update of what happened to ME this year:

School: Columbia
Result: Rejected ED

RD round (Total # of schools: 10) -

Accepted: Barnard, Boston College, U of Chicago, Claremont McKenna, Occidental, NYU
Waitlisted: Wellesley, Wesleyan (check out all the 'W's lol.. I found this very amusing!! had a good laugh! :))
Rejected: Georgetown, Brown

Attending: Barnard or U of Chicago (still biggg dilemmmaaa, U o C was originally my #2 choice, wanted to apply EA)

Future applicants: I wish you the best of luck!! :D

Best wishes,
C

Berurah, JHU is also just down the road from the Baltimore Art Museum. I've been in that area and remember thinking it was very nice. I hadn't realized, though, that there's a connection between JHU and the Peabody Institute.

School: Dartmouth
Result: Deferred ED/ Rejected
School: Davidson

He is very happy although I cannot put a number to it. He would have been miserable in the northeast as he is an avid golfer and can play all year long. His two best friends are in the northeast (Harvard, Wesleyan) and they exchange temperature/weather barbs back and forth. Both his friends were deferred from their first choices. The one at Harvard then got into Harvard he is happy. The Wesleyan friend applied there ED 2 and is very happy.

I haven't read this whole thread, but I suppose somewhere back there is a post observing that these results suggest the best way to be happy might be to be rejected by your first choice?

Certainly that being rejected is not the end of the world.

2boymom - Congrats, Davidson is a fabulous place - many similarities to Dartmouth, better weather - water skiing - perhaps even mopre academically serious, lots of golf, he will love it.

Tentatively (assuming I dont get off the waitlist for princeton)

Applied EA: Georgetown
Decision: deferred then waitlisted
Will attend: Harvard
Happiness: We will see!

Berurah, you must be so proud of the decision your son is making!! We will miss you at Duke!! To add to the list of great things in Baltimore: the Science Museum and the Aquarium are both at Harbor Place, right on the Harbor. It is a fun area built by Rouse Inc.(like Faneuil Hall in Boston) with shops, restaurants and the above-mentioned attractions (and many other things in that area including Oriole Park at Camden Yard). JHU will be an amazing experience for him!

School: Northwestern
Result: rejected ED
Attending: Tufts
S is very happy 10+

Me:
EA school: Stanford
Result: deferred EA, rejected RD
Attending next fall: Swarthmore
Happiness: Couldn't be happier with my choice right now, we'll see in the fall though after my first big paper is due...

I chose Barnard over UoC in the end.

Happpiness level (well at present) is unquantifiable.. but let me just say, I'm over the moon and absolutely HIGH ON LIFE!
I feel as though I'm on cloud 9 minus the smoking up (sorry, I DO realise that this is the parents forum, but I just had to say that)

Alllll my IB exams are finished and I've been liberated!
But yes, we shall see what my "happiness level" is when I start at Barnard.

After making my choice, I've never looked back and had no regrets.

Things work out for the best.

Hope everyone has a great summer!
x

School: Harvard
Result: Deferred EA/ Rejected RD
School Attending: Stanford

Harvard was my first choice all year and than I realized that I only liked it for the name. I actually was happy when I was rejected because then I was able to choose among the schools that were my best fits: Yale and Stanford. The rejection was a blessing in disguise and now I am happy to say that I will be a Cardinal next year. Funny how these things work out so well.

This is such a heartening thread... I'm a current junior, and the stress of getting this all underway is intense. Congratulations to everyone and keep posting! :)
