Outdoor odessy?

edit: Yes, I know I spelled Odyssey wrong :D

Can someone explain to me if the "backpacking" involves camping? I've never done anyting like this before (but I want to try), and I'm not sure what backpacking really contains.

Also, there are a bunch of recommended equipments that I've never even heard of. Should I even bother trying to go on this trip? I'm a complete newbie to backpacking.

You should totally do this. I was a guide for four years. Absolute best time of my life. No prior camping/backpacking experience needed, and they can outfit you with all of the gear you will need.

does the backpacking trip involve rockclimbing? cause i was thinking of doing the 4 day one but i really wanna rockclimb!

Does that mean I don’t have to bring anything?

mostly, you’ll have to bring your own stuff. However, you can rent things like a backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, flashlight/headlamp, etc. for a pretty low price from cornell outdoor education (which outdoor odyssey is part of). So basically all you’ll have to bring yourself are things like clothes, socks, hiking boots, and a bowl for eating. If you are confused about the list, that’s probably just a matter of terminology. There’s nothing you have to bring that you shouldn’t be able to find around your house, borrow from friends, or rent for cornell outdoor education. If you do odyssey (which i highly encourage), your guides will contact you over the summer and you can ask them any questions you have about the gear you have to bring or any other questions you have.

The bottom line is that Odyssey is a great way to experience something new, make friends, and have a fantastic and fun introduction to Cornell. You shouldn’t let the fact that you have no backpacking experience or are unsure of gear stop you from signing up. The trips are designed so that you don’t need experience and your guides can answer any concerns you have over the summer, before you leave for your trip.

Also, the backpacking trips don’t include rock climbing. But I believe there is a “multi-element” trip that includes some of both. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and i’ll try to answer them
