Who's doing it?
And do any upperclassmen have any suggestions about the best ones?

outdoor odyssey was the ****!!! Honestly, it was some of the most fun I have had at cornell and my Odyssey friends are still my best friends here. That being said, I suggest the 6 day rock climbing/back packing. Rock climbers are awesome!!

Do it. I heard its good.

what is it? i’m curious now that everyone says it’s good lol

As an alum who still has connections to the program, I heartily recommend it. It is one of the best things you can do to ensure a good freshman year experience.

^ lol, i wonder how ppl do that.
I should google it :)

haha cayuga. true, should have googled it. how do you do that, btw?

it’s only for incoming students? bummer

Outdoor Odyssey is only for incoming students, but cornell outdoor education holds classes all year round that are similar in nature to OO.

also, if you do outdoor odyssy, you get to meet mark holton. hes the best.

I’m doing the 4 day catskills backpacking trip! I’m sooooo excited!

I’m deciding between backpacking and camping, any suggestions?

Do the backpacking much more rewarding.

“camping” isn’t an option for trips, all trips include camping. I suggest you do rock climbing/back packing. Its a standard 4 day back packing trip with 2 days of rock climbing at the end and climbing is a LOT of fun.

There’s a “home base” thing

Hey all,

I’m in the class of 2013 at Cornell and I’m an Outdoor Odyssey guide for this coming August… we’ve been working hard planning trips and preparing for you guys!!

I can’t describe how helpful and fun Odyssey was for me… my transition to Cornell was seamless and a handful of my best friends were made on that trip. Plus the people you meet are in generally goofy and down to earth. An instant network when you get to campus as well.

I’ll be guiding Fingerlakes backpacking. Register and get psyched!!!

it must be a pretty good program. i haven’t seen tboone post in this forum without mentioning outdoor odyssey

outdoor odyssey didn’t “define” my freshman year, but it came pretty damn close. My OO connections have helped me become involved in things on campus that I didn’t even know existed, and the friends I have made in the program are honest the best friends I will probably ever have. Everyone that I know that did outdoor odyssey may not have had as excellent of an experience, but they all have had a great experience. Honestly, its college, if you haven’t been outdoors, its a great way to try something new.

Bumping this for the benefit of this year’s crew. My D2 knows people who went on it, and they loved it. I advised a friend’s kid to go on it last year, and they loved it too.
If you do it, and things work out well of course, you will come into orientation already knowing a group of your fellow students, which makes the periods of orientation and early adjustment to college so much easier.

I am a weak little boy. This sounds like fun, but will I collapse during this?

I’m guessing the silence means yes.
