... specifically in PA. Daughter aspires to teach high school math. I know that PA is a good state for teachers and consequently has a glut of them, especially elementary ed. Does anybody have a feel for what the job outlook is for secondary math teachers? Is there anything a college student can do to improve the chances of employment after graduation?

Math and science teachers are high in demand everywhere. I believe math teachers are really needed. I would suggest going to a good graduate school and going to there career/employment (place that help students/graduates find jobs) office for help in finding a job.

Thanks for the encouragement imhappy. Daughter is planning to attend a dual degree program that will result is a BS Ed and a BS Math. She has been doing job shadowings and apprenticeships and knows that she really wants to teach, but I am worried when I hear how many grads cannot find work. Maybe that’s not in the field of mathematics though. Or maybe it’s just the down economy. Hopefully the job outlook will be good in four years!
