Outside / Private Scholarships - clues on how to find?

My S was accepted ED at college which offers very little in the way of merit scholarship awards. The need-based FA award arrived today, and as expected, there won't be any of that.

So now the question is what is the best way to find outside / private merit scholarships? S has very strong stats that should put him in the running for scholarships that use academic performance criteria like GPA and SAT scores, and also some pretty solid ECs/ community service.

Aside from looking for a needle in a haystack on sites like FastWeb, and applying for a NMS, what strategies or tips can anyone offer? Looking for some practical pointers from someone who has gone down this road before. Thanks!

ya!!!!!!!!!!!!

The local ones that give to kids in your hs are good places to start; if your guidance office has listings. Elks, Rotary, Knights of Columbus, religious organizations, local bar associations... If you're in a hs where a lot of kids go on to college, find out where those kids applied for merit scholarships. Congrats on the ED!!!!
