I just received a scholarship from my CC. It's not a large amount, just $500. (I'm not complaining, I'm just stating the situation.)

How do I report this to the financial aid office, and what are they going to do? Are they going to decrease my aid dollar for dollar? I'm just a little confused cause I already submitted my eFAN and had my unsubsidized loan processed and everything.

Hopefully they don't cut anything, but if they must I hope they cut the work-study instead of the gift aid :D

Depends to whom the scholarship check will be written to. The sender could choose to write it to UC Regents in favor of your name/student ID. That would be processed towards FAO. If you are fully funded, then your other aides will decrease. I belive you can always update your eFan, but since you processed your loans, I'm not sure about what happens.

I think they cut work study before they cut loans.

If you get the check written to your name (to no college source) then take it as a paycheck.

Usually scholarships from big organizations (and smart ones) send checks directly to the school (or an indication towards your student account).

They want to make sure the fee is genuinely proceeding towards tuition/school expenses, and not for a $1000 flatscreen TV.

well, if a big scholarship is made out in your name, it may be better not to report it. i have a $40,000 scholarship ($10k per year), and I only had about $6,000 in loans. If I had reported it to UCLA, they would've used the $10k to cover the loans AND university grants. UCLA would reduce the amount of university grant money they would have to give me.

I wouldn't mind if they used it to cover the loan (since it's only like 10% of the money I have to borrow, LOL), but the thing is I've had my loan processed already. It would suck if they took it out of the UCLA scholarship. The work-study, I wouldn't mind so much.

hmm if we already reported scholarships (about 6k-ish) should we cancel our outside scholarship report? im worried that it will reduce my financial aid now..
