If I have $5500 in outside scholarships, do these count as Penn's contribution or mine?

anyone? am i being lazy or does no one know off the top of their head?
:(

I’m not for sure… but i would hope that the scholarships that you bring to the university would count as your contribution… if not why apply for outside scholarship??? ha ha ha

Oh I found this, if anyone’s curious, from the penn sfs website:

Outside Scholarship Policy for Aided Students
When you receive an outside scholarship (i.e., scholarships awarded from non-governmental sources outside the University), you will receive a dollar for dollar reduction in the self-help component of your financial aid package. Self-help includes expected savings from summer earnings, and work-study. University grant will be reduced only after all self-help has been eliminated.

NJBkitty,

You may want to try pursuing grants and scholarships through private foundations or even grants based on workforce development, depending on what you want to pursue. Funding is available, it can just prove difficult to find if you don’t know what to look for.

They’ll add it on your EFC…so the loans will decrease, then the grants. It kinda sucks because you will still have to pay the Family Contribution, regardless.
