Daughter is a terrific writer. She is a junior this year. She has been published in many newspapers and magazines. I would appreciate names of scholarship that many of you have come across that requires one or many essays to qualify. Looking for outside scholarhsip that do not have
need as a component as we are middle class family. No questbridge, JKC etc. Daughter’s have many great extracurricular activities and have written many essays and won non monetary awards for them.
Your local library or Barnes and Noble (considered here as a branch of the library) should have scholarship books that you can use to research that. Peterson and Kaplan are just two of the companies that have books. Also check out college express online.
Scholastic Art Awards (which includes writing) includes a scholarship component at certain schools for students winning at the national level. However, the submission time frame – Dec/Jan of senior year, with National winners announced in March, I believe, does not leave much room in terms of timing.
The Mensa Foundation has scholarships based soley on an essay. You do not need to be a Mensa member to apply.
