My daughter won some outside scholarships and all but one check is written out in her name. I spoke to the college aobut her scholarships and they told me to have my daughter endorse the checks made out to her, write in the memo ‘payment to XXX college’ and mail them to the college. Seems odd to me. Does this make sense? Will they be able to cash them?
Their bank may object to third party checks (mine does). I would just make a copy of them, or of the scholarship letter, and send the info to the FA department. You can just pay the tuition bill when it come, and you have fulfilled the obligation to inform the school about outside scholarships.
I have a similar situation but we are planning to hand deliver the check at orientation rather than mailing an endorsed check. Bills won’t be generated in our case until classes are scheduled which happens at orientation so the payment should post before the bill.
