Outside scholarships

How does outside scholarships affect the Princeton financial aid package?

Let's say I might get an outside scholarship of 5k.

I have a student contribution of 2.5k and family contribution of 2.5k.

Does this mean that my family does not have to pay anything?

If the outside scholarship only contributes to the student contribution and this would mean that student contribution would be $0, would I still be able to get a Campus Job to pay the family contribution myself?

Thanks.

I think Princeton will (unfortunately) re-adjust it’s financial aid so that with the outside scholarship, the student contribution of 2.5k and family contribution of 2.5k will remain the same.

I’m pretty sure that it covers the student contribution first, and then you can use the money to buy a laptop your freshman year, and then the university gets the rest-- so your parent contribution will stay the same. You would still be able to get a campus job/summer job to help your family out-- most jobs accept work/study and non work/study students equally.

From what I remember, ec1234 has it right.

Thank you for your replies. I really don’t want my parents to pay for anything as I haven’t asked them for any money for the past 3 years.
