I have a question. At the financial aid site they have a “report outside scholarship” button. What is considered an outside scholarship? What if I won a scholarship that was sent to me from UC Davis? How would it affect my financial aid? Purely hypothetical, of course shifts eyes.

For clarification. If UC Davis sent the application wouldn’t they know that the scholarship was given? In that case, would it go into the financial aid package and replace the cal grant A/B?

Is the UC Davis scholarship listed on the financial aid page (where it breaks down your expenses, and shows how much scholarship/grant money you have)?

If UCD gave you the scholarship, the financial aid people should already know about it. Which means you don’t need to report it. But it should also show up when you log into the financial aid page. If it’s some obscure scholarship funded by an outside source, you might need to bring it to their attention. I suggest you email someone at the financial aid office and ask - it couldn’t hurt.

I don’t think the scholarship would replace the cal grant, unless all of your expenses have been covered by grants and scholarships and you have “extra” money (in which case they might make adjustments). (but don’t quote me on that)

Ah, thank you for your response. I see. They would probably know then .Heaven forbid anyone have any extra money :P

flwrgrl: andrew is right. outside scholarships are those u get that are not from uc davis. once u report it, davis will reduce your ‘student self-help contribution’ first, then any excess money will be taken from any loan amount offered by ucd. it won’t have an impact on your grants or other ‘free’ money (ucd-funded scholarship, for instance) unless it was a HUGE scholarship.
