I've been hearing over the news about how many jobs in the IT field are being outsourced to India as computer workers in the US are being laid off. But I am quite interested in computers, and although I'd like to go for a CS or CE major, I would rather not spend the time, energy and money in a major that will likely go to India or China.

So my question is: Is the situation really as bad as it seems? I know that people say there's still jobs out there, but from what I know there are few and the situation seems kind of risky. But what do you think?

HA, an outsourcing thread that I had nothing to do with! I guess all of my posts finally had an impact.

Seriously though, an Indian engineer makes $12,00 a year (with absolutely no benefits) vs. about $60,000 for a US one. Of course companies will outsource.

Outsourcing is become pretty popular in countries where the workers are making below minimum wage. Then an american company comes along and offers to pay 15!!! Yes 15!!! an hour. What do you get? The best regional workers, happy workers, and loyal workers. Can’t get that in us…

Lest not forgot countries that embrace outsourcing with wide open arms through limiting their trade embargos to nill and having looser government zoning laws. Damn is outsourcing appealing…
