Over 15 practice tests done and still not understanding CR??

I study numerous hours every day, have about 600-700 sat vocab words memorized, read about 90% every CC reading guide, and done over just under 20 SAT tests (from princeton and blue book) but i still can’t efficiently go through a sat passage. I have improved massively in math and grammar (from 500s to 650s+) but reading is something else (still getting around 500-550 lol). When I do timed tests, it takes me literally 3 minutes for each reading question which is outrageous and I still get a few wrong. I have trouble comprehending the passages and I even find myself reading the same line 3 times over and over again. I review all my mistakes and when I do so, I completely understand what I do wrong but when I get a new passage, it’s as though its in some foreign language. I get most confused when the authors use words that don’t fit the context (secondary meanings I guess) or a play on words. Also, when the author uses a 100 words to describe one simple detail, I find it so complex and I can’t find the main idea. Please help!!! I am thinking about buying an SAT CR book but I don’t wanna pay money for it because im poor but if I still don’t understand CR then it’s my last option.

Are you a native English user? “Verbose” is an adjective, and “confound” is a verb.

WHOOPS! sorry i just memorize the meanings but not whether it’s an adjective or verb, my apologizes! and no but i can speak english fluently

Yeah, you need to know parts of speech. Memorization is great, but not if it’s mindless.

ok i will try memorizing more words, and try doing that! thx!

Memorizing more words isn’t going to magically help u w CR. CR skills need to be built up w READING.

For practice, try reading high well-written stuff, like NYT, WSJ, Economist, The Atlantic, Washington Post, and read the readers’ comments. The readers’ take on an article will help u to see the nuances of an article.

ok ill try doing that. Any other tips on how you guys improved your CR score?
