Over 24,000 apps for Cornell next fall (up 14%)

http://www.yaledailynews.com/article.asp?AID=28246

Soo...figure 2500 applied ED and 1,000 got in, or 40%
then 21500 applied RD, and 4500 more will get in, 21%

so that's a total of 23%

Don't you think there may be closer to 6,000 admits? Even this would mean a record low 25% admit rate. For the admit number to fall to 5500 would mean Cornell achieving a 54.5% yield to fill 3000 seats, and I think this is an overly ambitious goal right now.

Booooooooooooooo :(

I guess that's bad for people who got deferred ED :(

1,000 are already filled from ED. So that's a 44% RD yield rate with 5,500 admits...I was just guessing ne ways. 25% and 23% are pretty close, and it doesn't really matter ;).

wooow, mad apps...

that makes me glad i applied ED, good luck to all you RD applicants, you're going to need it with a 20 percent acceptance rate

I think the RD admit rate will be about 23% (5000 out of 21,500) for an overall admit rate of 25% (6000 out of 24,000.)

When people note that the ED admit rate is twice as high as the RD admit rate, the result should be a big jump in ED applications next year.

It's always like that though

Hmm yes this is what I have to say...all those peeps who applied RD could have easily applied ED if they truly wanted to go to Cornell...yet ED had like no increase. I smell a rat.

Yes, that's right, all those increased ppl are just being creepers aka do not truly love Cornell or they would have applied ED...everyone knows it's way easier to get in then ANYWAY. They def are being playa's and I don't want to hear about all that FA BS because I'm sure that is a concern for some people...but 14%?? This is some classic Tufts **** right here, and I sure as hell hope Cornell is smart enough to REJECT all those Harvard wannabe's. Thank you. :D

Nicky, you're insane

Well said Nicky! I guess people who got deferred ED have a better chance than RD people since we showed more interest in the school? I hope...

hehe, i'll second that comment :)

i don't know if this is true or not, but i heard that this was the first year Cornell switched to common app, so that may be a reason why so many more people are applying, now you have all the other ivy kids that may not have cared about Cornell that much saying, "what the hell do i have to lose, it is the common app and easy to complete", that is my reason for the increase, but i think those kids will be rejected anyways b/c they probably didn't care enough to put much effort into it, and Cornell will notice, b/c it wants quality applicants, not number driven applicants, so all of those that truly care about Cornell don't be worried by this increase, you probably have the same chances still...also all what i said is still contigent on whether or not this is the first year for commom app for Cornell

school is just getting harder and harder to get into these days...everywhere...

Baby boomer children....

Exactly.... I second AJKates's comment. Cornell is no safety ivy!

Its about time Cornell's acceptance rate went down. Even tho it doesnt really mean anything, ppl give CU way too much crap for accepting a lot of people....

Part of Cornell's appeal was its accepting of everyone though, at least for me....
