Overachievers

What do u think…do u think the highest/strongest applicants are the ones on CC or do u believe that people not on CC prolly have higher stats?

I think CC has higher stats cuz some people are anal about admissions and want to make sure they feel good that they will get in.

def CCers have higher stats and most are very qualified... I think CCers are probably the toughest competition you'll see... I mean... like we take time to come on here to discuss colleges, so there is a certain degree of obsession...

I think that everyone in the ivy league forum is in atleast the top 10% of their class except for me.

I wouldn't necessarily agree. For one, CCers could be lying about/embellishing their stats...we have no way of actually knowing how they did, and if they don't get in to schools, we'll never know. (That's said half-joking -- I'm certainly not accusing anyone here of lying; I just happened to contemplate that today.)

It depends more on your personality than your smarts. I'm sixth in my class, and the five people above me definitely do not go on this site -- maybe because they're not as tech-savvy, don't do the whole messageboards thing, or just plain don't care. One of the smartest kids in my grade seems like a total slacker, yet he's in the top three percent. shrugs

That said, it does seem as if the majority of "overachievers" come here -- probably because they're all Type A personalities (intensely driven) and recognize the same motivation in other posters; they have a way to almost 'let that nervous energy out.'

I doubt the whole application pool is like the CCer's. Everyone here seems to have an SAT score of over 2200+. Many kids here are liking but some truly do have really high scores.

I was thinking about the same thing a couple weeks ago, and I came to a similar conclusion. If you're interested in colleges enough to sign up to a college discussion message board, then you're definitely in the higher end of the application pool.

I don't get why people think people on here lie often. These forums are supposed to help you assess your chances and figure out what's right for you... How would lying about yourself provide any benefit?

But yeah, I agree that kids on CC tend to be overachievers, and I'm sure the % of kids accepted to Penn ED on CC will be significantly higher than the actual %.

Yea I kind of fit the bill for the typical CCer as far as grades/SATs go, and I'm definitely borderline obsessive with all this stuff. That being said, I come on here because my friends are the polar opposite of me in this respect, and talking with them about all the nuances of the college admissions process is just a definite no go. Soooo CC it is! I would be mocked for the rest of my life if anyone I know knew I came on here... and loved it so much lol. shh.

Haha, I'm the same way! I talk about college far too much (esp with ED/EA coming up!), and most of my friends are only midway through the process (many of them are scrambling to get UC apps out by Thursday), so it irritates them when I bring up the whole apps thing. :p

I definitely feel solidarity here -- like I said, many others here are of similar drive/personality. And since only a handful of people at my school are applying to the same schools as me (mostly UCs/CSUs, and I'm all East Coast), it's nice to be able to commiserate/anticipate decisions with everyone here.

oh yeah if anyone knew i came on this website i would never hear the end of it, im pretty big so no one would beat me up, but theyd be thinkin it lol
