<p>Listening to posts on this website maybe creates the impression that admission to the ivies, stanford and the 3 elite LACs is almost completely unpredicatable. Would you think that the following student would be pretty sure to get in to one of those schools if he applied to all of them.</p>

<p>Top 1-2% of class at very prestigious high school.
2300 SATs
750 average on Sat 2s
Two year editor of School Paper
Two year captain of a school sport.
National Merit Finalist.
Excellent Reccomendations.</p>

<p>By very prestigeous do you mean one of the 12 or so that send 25% plus to ivies? If yes, than this candidate would be pretty certain to go ivy. If the school is a day rather than a boarding school, more ECs will be expected. So if it's a day school that sends under 5% to ivies, this guy could do an Andi's son.</p>

<p>That isn't giving us needed info. There are NYC preps where everyone bought their way in and under 10% go to top colleges. The thing is, you should know what it takes. Schools like yours have great college counselors who can tell you exactly what it takes to get into each school from your school, at least in the past. They keep college books and have scattergrams that don't lie. Why would you be asking here with all that? How could we possibly compete?</p>
