Overall GPA? Major GPA? which one does the committee really care?

<p>Hi,</p>

<p>I'm a computer science student and I'm going to apply for grad school this fall. I know for science programs, research experience is probably much much more important than GPA. But anyway..no one is still not going to ignore the GPA...</p>

<p>My question is that does the admission committee really care about the overall GPA? My major GPA is close to 3.75 but my overall GPA is 3.696 which is below 3.7. When they use the term "GPA", are they saying your "major GPA"?</p>

<p>Can anyone shed some light on this? I appreciate it.</p>

<p>If someone asks for your “GPA” they want your overall GPA; they will ask for it specifically as your ‘major GPA’ if they want your major GPA. </p>

<p>If you have a big difference in GPA from your overall and major, you could put it in your statement of purpose, but if the difference is as slight as yours is then its not even worth mentioning.</p>
