Overall GPA or analysis of grades from each class....

Aside from SAT scores, does Rutgers really just look at one's overall GPA or do they look closely at the classes one took and the grades in such classes ? ( e.g. 2 kids can have a 3.5 GPA - - - with one kid having mostly B+ in classes and the second kid having some Cs with some A+s mixed in ). Does Rutgers really have the time / manpower to look at individual class grades ? Thanks.

RU Admissions takes a pretty close look at your transcript. They also don’t take reported GPA’s as gospel, making their own adjustments for the competitiveness of the HS attended and difficulty of courses taken.

Doesn’t take all that much time given that they have pretty good insight into the relative rigor of HSs in NJ, which account for the bulk of applications.

Thanks. Hard to gauge what is needed these days for acceptance… I always felt that SATs of 1200/1600 and a 3.5 or so should more or less do it. Compared to state universities in the tri-state area ( i.e. UMd, UDel, Penn St. UPItt, UConn, etc…), Rutgers seemingly falls somewhere in the middle. Then again, I guess each school has their own methodology.

You’re right, it’s impossible predict unless the applicant is at the top (or bottom) of the range in both GPA and test scores. One hears of different outcomes for people with ostensibly similar credentials. Trying to figure it out is a waste of time.

I’m not a big fan of “chance me” threads. From my perspective, if the applicant is within the “range” and likes the school, go for it. Let the Admissions Dept make the decision and don’t create a self-fulfilling prophecy based on what others might say.

Good luck.
