Hello,

I am wondering what you guys think of the overall prestige of the University of California as a whole. I am not asking which UC you guys think is better. I am just wondering what you guys think of UC in general.

Thanks

Hmmmm Interesting question. It was was excellent, and I think it still is excellent, maybe the best in the nation. But I wonder with the instate-community college mandates along with financial problems if it will remain great? I don’t know. I’m just wondering out loud.

It is not like the CC->UC transfer route is new, as it has been in the California Master Plan for Higher Education for over 50 years.

UC and CSU are intended to maintain a 60:40 ratio of upper division to lower division undergraduates, with many of the upper division undergraduates transferring in from community colleges.

It’s the best public higher education system in the world.

I believe it is the best state school system in the country. Almost all of the schools are nationally ranked pretty well. They have amazing programs and wonderful opportuniities. And if you are a state resident, you cannot beat the $13,000 tuition. Compare what even a mid-tier UC offers with most privates and then look at the price. Yes, undergrads may have a few large classes, but the upper division is tops. The graduation rate at most are pretty good. And most of the campuses are beautiful. As you can see, I am a believe in the system.
