Is UNC-Ch a good, prestigious school? Is it internationally recognized? I mean, worth the money for an international or OOS students?

Likewise, how does it compare to Duke (shud say rivalling school in basketball), NYU, private southern schools such as Rice, Emory, WuStL and state universities, as UV, UMich, UCLA and UC-B.

I do need personal, experienced opinions and facts about UNC; it may be the 'fittest' for my next 4 years. And this is crucially important for me.

Here's a link from their site, which includes history of the school, rankings, etc. (all under "facts"). As far as opinions, well . . . they're always going to be subjective, but maybe some current students can help there. Difficult to compare all these schools-- all the top public ones you mention, with the exception of UVA, are much larger in undergraduate population than is UNC. They're all excellent schools, and also all more expensive than UNC (which is true for the private schools you mention as well). I think you have to look more at your individual academic interests, as well as fit.

phillinoist, you have named schools with a variety of different sizes and also a variety of different campus/social cultures. Each also has its own academic strengths, as well as weaknesses. As a starting point, it might be best for you to do some self evaluation and try to get some idea of what you are looking for in a college or university. Then find out as much as you can about the schools that interest you and work from there. There are also a lot of other schools, some which may meet your needs better than any of those you have mentioned.

UNC is a fine university and easily worth the expense as an OOS if it offers the the social and academic environment that you are looking for in a college. Whether it can do that is something only you can decide.

I think the best answer I've been looking forward has already been attained.

I posted the same thread on 'College Admissions' generally to see more unbiased and outsiders' perspectives about the university.

However, with 39 visitors so far, not one reply has been made.

I should probably wait some more. But, anyway Jack and tyr, your replies are much appreciated. I found your information on universituy's ranking particularly useful and meaningful as well Jack. Thanks ^^
