I myself, and many others, struggled freshman year, and our cumulative gpas will certainly suffer. My freshman year, my weighted gpa was a mere 4.0, even though I took all the honors I could. What are your takes on overcoming this down the road? Aside from getting better grades "here-on-out," what else can be done to remedy the such for the likes of Stanford, Ivies, etc? Is it even possible?

I’m pretty sure two ivies don’t count freshman year.

Bumppppppppppppppppp.

Ace the SATs and have bomb ECs.

@fullofwonder Which ones?

@bugsy1995 I know exactly how you feel. )= My freshman year grades really sucked… With them, my overall grade is a 92.6 (including electives), without electives a 92.03. Without though, my overall is about a 95…
I’m scared they won’t be able to look past them, just as you probably are…
Not to mention that our ranks probably suffer from freshman year as well…

The only solution I can think of:
-Write your essay about why your grades weren’t so great (if you have a decent excuse anyway)
-Get amazing test scores
-Have kick *ss EC’s

But I bet you, like me, are scared that it won’t be enough…

sighs

Regret can be a horrible thing

Are there any other things one with poor freshman grades should consider, with the intention of reaching a major institution?

Try to consider taking a few classes or courses during your summers at local community colleges or enroll in summer programs at colleges, it definitely helps! It demonstrates potential and shows colleges that you are serious now about your grades.

Ace the SATs (Very good idea) and get EXTREMELY GOOD ECs.

I had an iffy GPA freshman year and I took college courses, REALLY raised my GPA the rest of the years–and ended 3.85 UW GPA, 4.2 W overall. Don’t lose hope!

You can make it–I promise.

stanford doesn’t look at freshman grades. However, they do look at rank - and your rank will be a result of your freshman grades.

Can you get recruited for sports?
Make your essays fantastic, and show your passion through your ECs. That’s really all you can do at this point, don’t stress about your freshman year you can’t do anything about at this point.
chance me?

@LesleyCordero Princeton also does not look at freshman year grades–however, like Stanford, they do look at the resulting rank.
