I applied ED and don’t want to give away what I wrote about, but I was wondering if there are some topics that seem tiresome and overdone. I am wondering if any of these include what I wrote about… :)

edit: I meant autobios done from the future (e.g. 40,50,80 y.o.)

How are are autobio's more overdone than "past" bios? I think no matter what you write, they wanna get a feel for who you are. They have the scores, grades, and the why penn essay. The only piece mixing in the picture is who the applicant is as a person.

i wrote about a horrible experience i had last year... haha 30 years from now...

well I think that a common theme amongst people applying to penn (not saying any of you) is becoming rich and becoming the next Trump. So if you talked about growing your own business empire, having 10 wives and looking back at your sucesses, then that is over done. Another hackneyed topic would probably be you becoming a celebrity and donating large amounts of money to Penn...lol, some people want to bribe their way in!

Someone should write an essay about how they got rejected from Penn and it ruined there life...or something hta thappened as a result of getting rejected from Penn...haha THAT would be interesting...but risky

that is funny, as 2 kids from my school actually wrote about how their lives got ruined after the Wharton rejection.

so... most people wrote about things that haven't happened yet? huh... autobiography can be any time in life... so my past events can be ok?

cujoe - yes it can be from any time in your life. It doesn't say WHEN you have written your autobiography, so you have almost total flexibility there.

yeah cujoe, anytime.

lishnnik: i did that, only i was anticipating my heartbreak if i was rejected

hmm..so maybe my idea wasn't as creative as I thought lol. Touche to those who did it though...I wouldn't have had the balls.

Look at the p. 217 essay I found that someone posted on LJ This is hysterical!

You have just written your 300-page autobiography. Please submit page 217.

hardly be called the best summer of my high school career. I want a refund.
It was also during this particular summer that I began my college applications. I would venture to say, as a rough guesstimate, that I could write perhaps eighty-three pages covering the time between the summer of 2002 up to this day, at my current age of seventy-seven.
The application process was challenging, to say the least. However, one particular essay question stood out from the pack. The University of Pennsylvania innocently suggested I turn in page 217 of my 300-page autobiography. Oh, how that question vexed me for hours on end. In retrospect, however, it seems rather prophetic. I keep a copy of my response to the prompt in a cardboard box in my attic, along with my other high school writings. Reproduced below is part of my response, enough to fill a prescribed length of space which I arbitrarily chose for no reason in particular.

PS The guy got in!

HAHA... that essay made me laugh... it's effective because it shows the personality of the author.

My first impression: he's quick, witty, funny, creative, smart, outgoing, takes interesting approaches to new problems, and is a great fit for any school

^ wat!?! im so confused

skierdude - Yup, and a risk taker, too!

d_m It's p. 217 of the guys autobiography. He's in his seventies and he's writing about the vexing time he had to write essays in the summer after his senior year. Then he says his essay is still stored, (after all these years, cuz he's in his 70s now) and he goes up to the attic and reads the essay and the whole thing just starts all over again.... get it?

posted on "LJ"? whats LJ?

Livejournal - there's a Penn community there.

so cute!! i din get it initially.. and was wondering how come u copied and paste the essay!!
hm.. i actually wrote abt in my deathbed, how i looked at this particular event and the satisfaction n tt i had of my life.. then suggested tt i completed the rest of the autobio in heaven.
BUT... my tcher commented it sounded morbid... so i scraped the idea.. haaZ..

if you know any stringed instrument, i wrote about my recital and how bad not having rosin messed it up... not just that, but more showing my character, stubborness etc.

"tt"=huh??
