Overheard at University Crossings

"And across the street is Drexel."
- "Isn't that a really prestigious university?"
"Yeah, most of the people who live here study there. And further down is Penn. It's supposed to be good for law and medicine, and they party really hard."

Oh my...

I can’t take that… Is Drexel a good school? Of course. Does Penn party hard? DUH. Do I hear ignorance?

Yup.

But you really can’t blame them. Drexel’s campus is all shiny and new, and Penn’s looks like it’s been overdue for a renovation for 50 years. If I had to guess which university had the money to hire top notch faculty and attract some of the best students in the world, my bet would have been on Drexel too.

Then obviously the community college next door to my house, with a shiny brand-new campus, will beat the crap out of Harvard in terms of prestige and quality …

You can’t mention Penn without mentioning their business school, so…

isnt drexel considered a pretty low caliber school?

Not Penn for sure, but nothing to sneeze at.

^ That’s what I was going to say! Drexel is among the best universities in the state and nationally renown for its co-op programs. And it’s got the prettiest, most modern campus of any urban university I have seen.

Do you guys really think Drexel has a nicer/more attractive campus than Penn? I’ve only seen the parts down Market/Chestnut/Walnut…where is it? You just mean the modern buildings like the law school? Does it have a quad or a locust walk equivalent? I’m really asking.

Beyond selectivity/SAT scores, I know Drexel isn’t Penn quality but it is a good school (all relative). Any school in the top 100 on USNWR is probably one of the better schools in the US.
