Overnight Camp - Adults Only (Women Only?)

Over the holidays my kids/partners and I were talking about sleep away camp for kids. Picture the Parent Trap (new version) type of idea. My kids only did 6th grade camp. We were talking more about summer camp, or what I call east coast camp - there kids often go away for a week or more - while the parents “vacation” at home or away!

Anyway, as we talked I said I would LOVE to go to a sleep over camp for a few days adult style. NOT a fancy spa. Also not sleeping in tents. Something in the middle. There would be scheduled things like morning hikes, meals, water sports in the afternoon, chill time, evening campfires -you get the idea. Both my daughters said they’d love that too! At least they said that at the time……

Does such a thing exist? Maybe a few days up to a week? Bonus points for something in the Midwest on water.

I’m so curious and would love to hear about anyone who has attended such a thing. Links to places/specific “camps” appreciated.

I dont know if they have camps for adults but if they do, sign me up! When we were kids in the 50s and 60s we went to camp in New Hampshire for 2 months- my brothers to the boys camp and me to the girls camp across the lake. I loved it. Oddly, it never occurred to me to send my own kids away all summer. Then again, I didn’t have four kids in six years like my parents did. But I’d go again!

Check with your local Girl Scout council. Where I live (WA state), a few of ours host Women’s Weekends at camp. 3-4 days in cabins, all food provided, and camp activities like boating, archery, music, hiking, as well as just relaxing at the lake reading a book or napping. Participate in as many as the organized activities as you like, or do none. Another YMCA camp in the area does the same (different camp and location). Fun!

This isn’t a base camp type of thing, but REI Adventures has Women Only trips to various parts of the country, various activities and difficulty levels. There are trips with camping (although guides prepare meals and whatnot), or lodge-based trips. It might be something to consider!

Have you or anyone you know attended this camp? The length of time is great!

I loved camp as a pre-teen and teen, often going for 6 weeks at a time.

I’ve often said I’d love to find camp for grownups !

Well….maybe we can get a CC rate…. And all go! :tent:

Those women’s REI trips sound fun! I looked into them a while back, just a little pricey. Haha love the CC camp idea though!!

Thanks for that link - I requested info for 2023

A family member is the owner of this place, it is definitely an adult camp. I dont know if they have women only weekends but it is a fun place

These are so fun to look at! Maybe they just look appealing because it’s January and dreary outside.

I found this Ohio link but no 2023 info yet (I’m in Ohio). I do think I personally would prefer a women’s only camp.

People do this kind of thing informally, usually for a specific purpose, such as a group of friends sharing a rental house or cabin together in a place where they are doing a multi-day event (e.g. participating in a sports event, spectating a sports event, etc.).

Sure. In my world that’s called renting a cottage on a lake with family or friends.

I’m looking for organized camp experiences and the listings above are very much what I’m looking for.

I did a learn to sail weekend (women only) in about 1990. It was fun, we slept on the boat, and learned how to sail, read charts, do the chores, etc. There was some down time for reading or just watching the water.

@helpingthekid73 - that place looks like fun! I could easily fly into Hartford pick up a car & get to camp, especially since check in and check out is in the early evening. I’m going to seriously look into it.

My BIL’s family goes to https://www.fobtc.com/ (Berkeley Family Camp) every summer. You have to be a residence of Berkeley or it looks like maybe a grad of Cal to attend.

There are camps centered around various interests. I adore camp life and loved working at a camp as a college student as well as later. Camp has a positive effect on the human spirit, or at least my human spirit!

Here is one for immersion language learning. Concordia Language Villages in northern Minnesota. Concordia Language Villages - Adult Programs I worked there for a time when my kids attended, and it is a gorgeous camp setting with language appropriate buildings.

I used to look at camps for music learning but haven’t checked them out in years. Still here- Lifelong Arts | Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp has programs for adults.

And in a spectacular setting, Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico has all sorts of workshops that are adult oriented. Retreat & Workshops - Ghost Ranch
