Overnight Guests At Residence Halls

I did some research and it seems like they aren't very strict about having a Guest Authorization Card for overnight guests?

I'll be attending UCSB as a freshman this fall and I'm planning on my boyfriend coming to visit every now and then. Do the RA's check up on you about this? Also, how would my guest eat in the dining halls? Would they just pay for each meal every time they go to the dining hall or something like that? Lastly, my boyfriend is a competitive swimmer so my question is, would he be allowed into the pools on campus? Do you have to have an id card to get in or something?

I assume you have a single? If not, what should your poor roommate do while your bf is in the room?

ahaa stop thinking dirty !! it’s just visiting, and i’m planning on dorming with a close friend so she’ll probably be okay with it :)

The RAs don’t really care too much, I brought my bf like once every month or so. Theres a limit to how many times you can bring someone, i think its something like 10 days a quarter, but they’re not strict on that. The first couples times I checked him in formally, sometimes I didn’t even bother to check him in. As for dining commons, it is gonna cost you 12$ for each guest meal, and it will go to your BARC account. For the rec cen, I believe you have to have an ID to enter.

ahh i see, thanks
i remember seeing a pool near the carillo dining common? do you know if he would be able to get in to the pools not inside the rec cen?

i dont know about that one, but i think it would be fine honestly, esp if he comes in with you. as long as he doesnt cause any trouble no ones gonna really notice or care. lol

and also the only time ucsb is crazy strict about guests in dorms, is halloween. they check your ids everytime you leave or come in, so i think its kinda impossible to have ur bf around halloween in the dorms thats all.

oh yeahh i heard about the halloween thing too, thanks for the info :)

He can get into the pool by Manzanita! All you need to get in that pool is the building key you’ll receive.

Halloween: Dorms will feel like 1984.

Rest of the year: “You have a guest? Cool.”

Life goes on.

Aside from Halloween (where non-residents are prohibited from every single residence halls), nobody–not even the RA’s–give a crap that you have a guest.

Don’t bother checking in your guest if he/she arrives.

Source: I lived through two Halloweens in the dorms.

TL;DR: Aside from Halloween, the enforcement of the guest policy is non-existent in the dorms.

Why is the staff so obsessed during Halloween is what I’m wondering.

Do check him in if he stays overnight, cause sometimes RA’s do check up on you. But please be considerate, too much visiting can distract your roommate.
Dining common is $12 each meal, I think they charge it to your barc account.
For the Rec cen, he doesn’t need an ID, but he needs to pay (like 12 dollars a day, don’t really remember) but you can bring him into the residential dorm pools ;)
