Overnight Program

Hey,
I know MIT offers the overnight program but it says its only open to admitted students.(I was deferred) Should I schedule a slot now in case I get admitted or wait until I find out?

Thank You.

You have been misled. There's an older blog on the mit website that says admitted students can stay overnight. But if you hunt through the admissions website, you'll find an offer for current juniors or seniors to stay overnight. My daughter is a junior and went for an overnight visit in the fall. Here is the link with more of a description.
MIT Admissions: Staying Overnight

thanks, but it says during this specific time period it is only open to admitted students on the top of the overnight application form

We did go in the fall, so I guess there are different rules about it for different times of the year. It couldn't hurt to place a call to the admissions office and see whether they might allow it anyway.

I wouldn't schedule an overnight now -- the overnights are with current students, who don't plan their lives this far in advance, so even if you schedule it now, the admissions office probably won't be able to look for a host for you for a few months.

Also, if you're admitted, you might want to come to Campus Preview Weekend, which is attended by something like two-thirds of the admitted class, and is probably more useful for deciding whether you'd like to come to MIT than an overnight by itself.

Great thanks, when is CPW usually held?

This year it's April 16-20, I believe.

I have never heard of admitted students doing overnights now... are you sure you're not misreading?

Admitted students can do overnights in the spring -- I did, because I was unable to come to CPW. But I think overnights are only available when class is in session.
