Overnight Stay Program Email

Hello All, I just got this email from UC Berkeley.

*As you consider your college admissions decision, we invite you to save the date to experience student and campus life at UC Berkeley through the OVERNIGHT STAY PROGRAM (OSP), a 24-hour campus visit organized by the Alumni Scholars Association.

Participation in OSP is contingent on your acceptance to UC Berkeley. If accepted, you will receive an email from us during the first week of April with instructions on how to register.

During the Overnight Stay Program you can:

-Visit the UC Berkeley campus
-Eat at residence dining halls
-Attend class(es)
-Speak with Cal alumni, professors, and students
-Stay overnight with a Cal student in the dormitories

OSP also offers a concurrent program for parents of student participants tailored to parents’ interests.
Note: Accommodations are not included for parent participants.

In its 16th year, OSP is the largest such event at UC Berkeley attracting nearly 900 participants per year. As a student-run program, we offer participants a highly unique perspective on college life. *

At the bottom it says this "This program is completely separate from the UC Berkeley admission selection process as well as the Alumni Scholarship selections process. You are receiving this email because we thought you might be interested in this opportunity. If you would like to be opted out of future email communications, please e-mail scholarships@alumni.berkeley.edu with "Unsubscribe" in the subject line and we would be happy to oblige. If you do this, you will no longer receive email communications from the California Alumni Association’s Scholarship Department and will not receive any information regarding Alumni Scholarships. "

But what the heck, why would I want to stay overnight if I don't even have admission yet? Why would I be "interested in this opportunity" if I didn't have admission?Admission and this email have to be somewhat related or am I just getting to hopeful?

If you applied for the Alumni scholarship, I think you received this e-mail.

yea, it looks as if we all got it.

maybe we could post our stats to see if there's a trend?

lol

uc gpa: 4.12

I didn't get it, but I applied for the scholarship...

OH and my UC GPA is 3.96.

UC GPA: 4.16

To be on the safe side, don't get your hopes up, guys...

UC GPA: 4.17 (if I recall correctly)

I didn't get it, but I didn't apply for that scholarship either.

Did they ask people to apply for the alumni scholarship, like the regents scholarship, or was it open to everyone?

It says it's conditional on your acceptance, and the Alumni Association has no influence on acceptance. It's probably just for people who applied for the Alumni Scholarship. That's how they have your email.

hmm i went to ohp last year. i didn't apply for alumni scholarship.. my uc gpa was 3.96

did you go because you had received an invitation - or do you remember?

Yea, @ our school all the asians got an invitation.. to ohp = =

Why would they email us just a few days before admissions? That's such a tease.

@88888888

All the Asians? Is it some sort of multicultural week like they have at WASHU?

lol i dunno. supposedly it was for minorities...? i dunno all i knew was .. my white friend wasn't offered.. and the other asians were.

there's a difference between overnight HOST program (lhttp://rcsa.berkeley.edu/ohp.php) and overnight STAY program (led by alumnis)

actually, as a first year, they're asking me if I'd like someone to stay in my room overnight. i'm just a bit iffy about it because my room is tiny :(

oh . hmm. i was overnight host program. we even got a free shirt.
