Overnight Stay Program (OSP) ??

I recently got an email from UC Berkeley inviting me to an "Overnight Stay Program" at the school. I wanted to know if anyone knew more about this? I got an invitation a couple weeks ago to apply for the Leadership Award, which I did and today I got an email inviting me to this OSP. I know for a fact that this does not guarantee my acceptance, but does anyone know whether or not this is a good thing that they invited me to come stay at the school? (since I know not everyone got invited) Thanks!!

"Dear student applicant to The Leadership Award,

As you await your college admissions decision, we invite you to save the date to experience student and campus life at UC Berkeley through the OVERNIGHT STAY PROGRAM (OSP), a 2-day campus visit organized by the Leadership Award Scholars Association (LASA).

Please note that receiving this invitation does not impact Admissions decisions, and your decision to attend OSP is contingent upon your admission to UC Berkeley. If accepted, you will receive an email from us on March 26 with instructions on how to register online at: Overnight Stay Program 2011 | CAA.

The Overnight Stay Program gives you the opportunity to be a part of all aspects of student life:

visit the UC Berkeley campus;

eat at residence dining halls;

attend classes; speak with current Cal students, alumni, and faculty;

stay overnight with a Cal student in the dormitories.

OSP also offers a concurrent program for parents of student participants tailored to parents’ interests. Please note: Accommodations are not included for parent participants.

In its 18th year, OSP is the largest event of its kind at UC Berkeley attracting over 900 participants per year. As a student-run program, we offer you a highly unique, inside student perspective on college life by helping high school seniors decide if Cal is the right fit for them.

WHEN IS OSP?

You can participate in one of three sessions:

Session I: Sunday, April 3 - Monday, April 4, 2011

Session II: Sunday, April 10 - Monday, April 11, 2011

Session III: Sunday, April 17 - Monday, April 18, 2011

HOW MUCH IS OSP?

$95 per student (includes meals, program & accommodations) and

$95 per parent (includes meals and program, no accommodations provided).

HOW DO I REGISTER?

Due to the popularity of this program, sessions fill up quickly. We will offer the opportunity for you (students & parents) to sign up for early priority registration on March 25.

Best of luck on your college admissions decisions and we hope you will join us at OSP.

Sincerely,

Leadership Award Scholars Association"

I got it too. I dont think it means anything

did you apply to the leadership award too?? :)

I think this is a good sign if I can remember. If you think about it… UCB decision comes out on the 24th and sign ups are on the 25th, so why would you sign up for this event if you were rejected?

well thing is i don’t even think you are able to sign up for it unless you were accepted. hence the whole contingency thing regarding your acceptance and stuff. i was just curious though like if getting this email was a good sign.

for instance, if you got invited to the ucsb orientation at the marriot by LAX, it basically meant that you got accepted into the school

Definitely do it! I did it and had an amazing experience! I will be a host this year for you little ones!

clueless2400, can you tell us any more about who gets this email invitation and how it related (if at all) to admission in past years? Thanks to anyone who can shed a little light.

They’re just inviting you to go but it is completely up to you on whether or not you truly want to go

LASA and OSP are associated with the Cal Alumni Association and not with Admissions.
Reading the email, it seems like it was just sent to every person that applied for the Leadership Scholarship and it serves as more of a ‘Save the Date’. I wouldn’t try to read too much from these emails. Just enjoy yourself for now (I know it’s hard!) and hope for the best on the 24th.

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t mean anything. There’s three OHPs to my knowledge: one for Regents, Leadership, and normal. The Leadership OHP comes only after they accept you I believe. Or maybe Leadership OHP is completely non-existent… That could also be the case since I might be mixing up the normal and Leadership OHP. But nevertheless, it means nothing unless you were invited by Regents, but you would already know by then that you’re in.

as far as i remember, i thought everyone who got it was invited to go. hm idk. maybe i just chose the later date so i knew that i got in by then or something…but i definitely don’t remember not signing up until i found out if i was in or not. i’m pretty sure people that were in the osp with me were already in. but hadn’t decided…i have no idea though. sorry.
