I am going to the overnight stay later this month. For some reason I have a hunch that it is mainly females attending. Does anyone know if a fair amount of guys attend because I really don’t want to be the only guy
Bump
My daughter stayed overnight during the fall. There were several guys as well as girls. They didn’t spend much time with the other prospective students. The majority of the time was spent with her overnight host and that student’s friends. Your host will be a guy and you will meet his room mate and other people in his dorm. They ate dinner together and spent the night touring the campus and the gym. It was well worthwhile and I think the experience is what made UMD her first choice school. Good luck. Residence life was helpful in answering any questions she had beforehand.
When my son did the overnight stay last spring, there was a fair number of guys participating – I remember it as being pretty evenly divided, but I wasn’t really looking at that <== so at least it can’t have been too lopsided or I would’ve noticed, I’m sure!
My son did the overnight last week. His host hosted two students and told them he signed up the day before to host because they didn’t have enough students to host guests. It wasn’t a good experience unfortunately. The host took them off campus, which they weren’t supposed to do. He said they saw some kids at the STAMP who said their host dropped them off there and said call when you’re ready to go to bed. It’s a great idea and many schools don’t have an overnight program. It seemed a bit unorganized when we arrived. There seemed to be a lack of male student involvement to us as there were no male presenters to the parent / student group as well.
Now is the wrong time for bad impressions.
My son attended this last night. There were a number of guys there when we went to drop him off. We got a text from him at 1:30 AM that he was having a great time. We knew then that the college choice decision was finally over.
UW Madison was his top choice before last night. I do think UMD does a fine job of introducing admitted students to the Dorm experience with this program however just with anything else, ymmv.
In my son’s case, It looks like this +ve experience contributed significantly in his decision making process.
