Overnight visit at Rice?

I am very interested in doing an overnight visit but I was wondering when the best time to do it would be. It would cost me $350 to go in plane tickets cost. It is my understanding that visiting the college gives you an admission edge. Is this true? I would be there for three days and two nights. If I go first semester, then I'll miss three days of school but, it might be the boost to get me into the school. If I visit second semester, it would be Apr 1. While I wouldnt miss any school, I would have to make my travel arrangements before I knew whether or not I was accepted and if I wasnt, it would be a severe waste of money.

So should I go first or second semester?
Also, I am already scheduled for an interview next month and there is an info session next month. I really really want to go to Rice though. If I visited, could I speak with the admissions people and try to get to know them?

I was about to say... you should not visit a school second semester (April 1) unless you were accepted and strongly are considering to matriculate there--I think that's an obvious given. Well, if you were deferred and thought another campus interview/campus visit was necessary, then that's a different story.

You should try to go during the fall semester (this semester). Did you schedule an on-campus interview or an alumni interview that is not on campus? I think Rice really likes demonstrated interest and if possible I would encourage you to visit the campus if you have not already done so.

I don't think you should schmooze with the admissions people in terms of trying to "get to know them," but instead just be polite and introduce yourself and let them get to know you a bit. Ask them questions, take a campus tour, etc.

In terms of overnight visit, I suggest you call up the admissions office and try to make arrangements with them for you to get an overnight host. I didn't do an overnight (except on Owl Days), so I'm assuming that's the way to go if you want to do an overnight.

I would definitely try to get a visit in first semester. There is an overnight program through the Admissions Office that will allow you to be matched with an overnight host for a day Monday-Thursday. You shouldn't worry about trying to talk to the Admissions staff and get to know them, for the most part the only part of the admissions office you will have contact with is the interviewers, tour guides, and office assistance, none of whom play a direct role in actual admissions.
Try to schedule an overnight visit, (keep in mind, last day of class here is December 5th!), if not, hope you get in then come to Owl Days!

I do have a visit scheduled for Dec 2 until Dec 4. Also, I happened to meet Alexis Kramer, the assistant director of admissions, and she told me that she would be reading my application. I got to meet her because she was having the information session and sent me an invitation in the mail but the date on the flyer and the the date on the internet were different so I called her (no one else did) and she fixed it and took my name and number down then at the actual info session, I introduced myself and I am going to call her again today because I have a few mroe questions (and I hope it will show some extra interest in the school and to personally let her know I am doing an interview) so I hope everything goes well.

If I visited Rice near the time you end classes, would that not be a good idea?

FYI, we love prospies. We WILL entertain you guys if you visit.
