overnight visit, interview?

I've heard that you can do your rice interview over the summer, is this true? And if so, when, where, etc...
Did anyone actually do this and have any insight to it's impact on your chances?
Also, you can overnight at rice once you are a senior, correct?
when would be the best time to do this?

Actually, rice has a website.

You can use it to look up information like this.

<a href="http://www.rice.edu%5B/url%5D">www.rice.edu</a></p>

Cynicism aside, on the Rice Application lies a checkbox: "have you stayed overnight at Rice." Of course, checking would help, but this is only one of many factors (have you contacted: a student, an alum, a teacher, an administrator, an other; how's your box; how're your essays; did your siblings/parents go to Rice?; how'd your interview actually go?; what part of the globe are you from?).

Visiting is fun and it should help you find out more about Rice if you're interested, and it definately tells colleges that you're more likely to enroll than an equally qualified candidate that didn't visit, so that's where it might give you an edge. Outside of this situation, however, it might not have an effect on your admissions fate.

But visit. It'll be worthwhile.

My son (from NY), who's a rising sophomore, and I visited two years ago during the summer before his senior year. He couldn't stay overnight, but they obviously liked the fact he cared enough to visit, because he was accepted. Coming from far away means you care. It's not as if you made the New England or Penn all inclusive tour..which means you visit a lot of schools, they know you spent the time and money to come to visit Rice. By the way, the visit helped clinch my son's decision to go to Rice above many other top notch schools. We both loved it. As I said to the admissions people when they asked how we liked it...."It feels warm and fuzzy". LOL, but it wasn't the summer heat we were feeling!
It was so obviously different from the other schools. My son still absolutely loves it. What's more, there were hardly any students there when we visited, but he still knew it was the right school. Worth a visit anytime.

Ironically, jakpot, <a href="http://www.rice.edu%5B/url%5D">www.rice.edu</a> is down at the moment, haha

i dont think a summer visit helps...its just for u to see..unless they like write down your name and everything but i know that when i went there for the tours and everything it was ver informal since they see so many people.

I think a visit helps, but obviously Rice understands that not every family has enough money to fly half way across the country to visit. If a student was wait listed, I think a visit would be more helpful in getting off the wait list.

... but maybe you wouldn't be on the waiting list if you had visited..

Yeah but most people don't have enough money to just fly to whatever college they are interested in regardless of cost. There are other ways to show interest(ex. writing letter to admission, attending information sessions in your local area) that are much more financially reasonable.

That is the point. If you are visiting ANY college, they know you are willing to go the distance for the college you are most interested in. If you can't visit fine, but if you visit any college that is not right next door to you and it isn't Rice, they know Rice is not your top choice. Not visiting does not mean you will not get in, but I would think that a show of passion for Rice would count toward acceptance, except for students who obviously can not afford the visit.

i dont think thats a valid argument cause the admission comitte does not know about your financial situation when they review your application. therefore they cannot distinguish the people that could not visit and the ones that could and to favor the ones that visited without knowing the underlying circumstances would be discriminatory.
