I'm currently a junior, and I'll be heading to MIT for an overnight visit soon. So far I plan to visit the MIT museum, take a trip on the freedom trail, and sit in on a few classes (Diff EQ and Cosmology). I'd like to know what else I can do on campus, that would enrich my visit and at the same time be economically viable. I'll arrive at noon on day 1 and leave at around 3 PM of day 2.

Are you staying with a current student overnight? That’s probably the cheapest / best way to give yourself an actual feel for campus.

Well yes, it’s an overnight visit with MIT itself (the program for overnight visits), but I’m just wondering what I can do on campus…any suggestions?

Check out some of the libraries.
Eat fast food at La Verde’s.
Buy something from MIT Coop.
Enjoy the unique MIT art surrounding you.
…
and of course,
BEWARE OF THE MAD SCIENTISTS!

You are looking for a home for four years. So look at it as a home. Visit those parts of the campus that you would expect to use as a student LIVING at MIT. So if you are a swimmer, check out the pool, or the shooting range, or the ice rink, or whatever part of the environment you thing you might be using regularly.

Sit in on different types of classes. Attend whatever student activities are going on while you are on campus. That can be the atmosphere of an LSC film, or a Chorallaries or Logarythms performance, or whatever else is going on that evening. Look at is as a) a school, and b) a town you might be moving to. Both parts need to work for you.

If you are interested in one or two specific areas, you can contact those departments directly. For instance, the physics department has a website for prospective students, encouraging them to visit the department: [MIT Department of Physics](http://web.mit.edu/physics/prospective/visit.html).
When my daughter visited for an overnight as a high-school junior, she contacted the department in advance, and during her visit she was able to talk with a professor, visit two classes, and have lunch with a physics major.

I have to second Phoestre and La Verde’s. they supplied my breakfast and snacks for a week.
