My Overnight Visit to WP is scheduled for Feb. 6-7. I was just wondering if anyone hear could give me some insight into what to expect. Thanks!

your gonna go to admissions in the morning and listen to a breifing. then you will get a cadet to escort you around. not sure how this works.. i went with my sis. she took me to her room. dropped off my stuff, then we went to classes till lunch. after lunch we went to classes till 330ish. then went back to her room to get changed for rugby practice. after that shower than mandatory dinner (thurs night). after that she had a meeting then we did hw. and went downstairs and chilled in one of her company people's room till taps. went to bed woke up early to study more. formation then breakfast. most people left after this but i stayed with her until she took pass to hang with the family. you can PM me w/ any specific ?s.

My son went up last year in mid-May. He spent the night in a cadet room, ate in the mess hall, woke up early, went to classes with the cadet to whom he was assigned. Called us on the way home (he drove up, we live 50 miles south) and told us he was going to West Point.

big green - i read this thinking i was in the section for another academy, and had to laugh at that last sentence.

BigGreen, I'm in westchester i bet we live pretty close

Taffy: wouldn't have been anything to laugh about. I'm certain if my son had spent a night at the Naval Academy he still would have called us after his visit to tell us he was going to West Point. Unless, of course, it was May/June and he got suckered in by USNA's lack of discipline and their AIR CONDITIONING!!!!! :)

Haha, the air conditioning is a double edged sword.

At SLS it was hot as *****. You sweat w/o thinking about it.

At Navy SS, the rooms were air conditioned, extremely. They only told us to bring linens and didnt issue us sheets. So at the night you'd wake up shivering huddled in a ball, freezing because the air conditioning made the room 40 degrees.

I'll take being hot over shivering any day. Just when I leave for beast, i'll bring a small fan.

Who do I call at West Point to arrange an overnight? General admissions office? My local area of contact? Thanks

I know this may very well be no use, but it explained the overnight visit on my LOA (phone numbers and everything)

TMac - I think you either have to have an LOA or already be admitted to do an overnight stay. My son didn't get in until May 10th - couldn't do his overnight until then and they told him, because it was so late, that he could do an overnight but needed to give his decision BEFORE he left West Point.

You should call or email your regional admissions officer.

I was able to go for an overnight in my junior year (b/c my sis goes there) i believe you dont have to have an LOA to go. you just have to be a senior.

anybody know what to wear to the overnight visit? They told me "smart dress" but i dont exaclty know what that means.

armyboy, IMO typical military style would be nice khaki pants and a polo shirt or an oxford shirt. Loafers, not sneakers. Enjoy!

I think BigGreen is correct as far as official overniters for cadet candidates. You don't officially get an invite to an overniter until you get an LOA or an appointment.

Armyboy -

When we visited, Spidermom's description is what the other overnight candidates were wearing.

No one really cares what you wear. Just don't wear a suit. Most candidates do wear khakis and a polo or something.

TMac- this is the number that was posted on www.usma.edu for making an overnight visit (845) 938-5760. it says that competetive candidates should take advantage of the offer. no where on the website does it say that you must be invited (as opposed to USNA where it is invite only). for the site go to www.usma.edu then click admissions, more info, and then candidate visits.

SparkleandShine- Thanks a lot for the information. I'm going to try to schedule an overnighter next week. Thanks again!

TMac, I believe they need a minimun of 2 weeks notice.

Yeah, I've heard that. I meant I'm going to schedule it next week for some time in the future.
