Hi all! I am a first-year, regular decision applicant to Dartmouth College.

I plan to visit Dartmouth in early March. While there, I would like to visit a class or two and hope to spend the night. However, it was stated on the school's website that prospective students can only spend the night with a friend/current student they know on campus. Unfortunately, I do not know any Dartmouth students! Is there any current Dartmouth student on CC who would be willing to host me or who knows someone willing to play host? If you're interested please message me. I would appreciate any feedback or advice!

Since you do not plan on visiting until March, I think that you should wait.

Should you receive a likely letter, you will also receive an invitation to dimensions - Dartmouth’s admitted student days. Should you be admitted RD in April, you can do to dimensions, spend the night, sit in on classes and meet your fellow prospective classmates.

I do not think that you should visit in March. If you visit in March and find that you really love the school and the school does not return that love for you then it may be harder for you to move on and love the school that is loving you in return.

I agree with Sybbie. March is not the best time for a visit…students will be finishing term and studying for finals 1st weekend until mid second week. Then many will go home when term is over mid-month only to come back 3rd week to new classes and schedules. Dimensions (for accepted students) will go all out to accommodate you (housing, nightlife, dept-specific info sessions, shows, class schedule of open classes to sit in on and many other prospies for you to meet who might be in your class) It is in April. My son was accepted ED and we went anyway but he loved it and was able to get a great feel for the campus and student body that weekend.

Thanks for your comments!
I have decided, on my parent’s recommendation, to visit in April if I were admitted. I thought visiting in March would give me a “genuine” feel for the campus, but I suppose an April visit will do the same!

As a current dartmouth freshman, I advise you to go with your earlier plan and try to visit any day but Dimensions, the admitted students’ day. Dimensions is a spectacular lie. Nothing, good or bad, essential to the nature of Dartmouth is accurately represented.

^ I couldn’t disagree more. I am a parent, but my daughter attended Dimensions, and she fell even more in love with Dartmouth than ever. She is now a very happy, obsessed with Dartmouth '14. Dimensions was her favorite accepted students weekend.

^^Current Dartmouth student. I loved Dimensions. It was my only visit to Dartmouth and I have found it pretty accurately represents my Dartmouth experience, but…bigger, I guess. It’s also a great way to meet your classmates, which is really important. You should probably like your fellow incoming freshmen, wherever you end up. I’d absolutely recommend going. And March would be a terrible time to go, because its the end of the term and exams.

The weather at Dimensions, however, will probably be a lie. I think the administration sacrifices a goat or something, because it is always warm and sunny and magically not mud season for Dimensions. Mid May magically shows up for that one weekend in April.
