Can anyone give me any info on overnight visits? My son is trying to decide between USMA and USAFA. USMA has overnight visits, does USAFA? He had the opportunity to do SLS at West Point and has yet to visit the AFA. We really want to give him the opportunity to see both sides before he decides. He has already has appointments to both.

I'm pretty sure that overnight visits are allowed for appointees. However there is also Orientation in April, which gives a pretty good glimpse (considering it is only about 2 days long) to actual life here. It also gives the parents/kids good information about what to expect, topics ranging from academics to BCT to daily life here, via briefing held by the Commandant, SUP and Dean. I'm glad I went last year, it helped me feel confident I had made the right decision in coming here. I also got a good taste of the what to expect weather wise...lol(for all those who remember the third orientation last year, you know what I'm talking about).

Candlewood yes they have overnight visits. You can arrange them through the Admissions office at the USAFA website. It is best done before recognition (Jan - Feb) because you will see what a 4* will be living like. The cadet you stay with (if a 4*) should be at rest for the visit, and you will pay a small fee for meals. As CDK said orientation is a great trip for those who have accepted or are considering accepting an offer of admission. Just bring a coat last year when we went they had a freak white-out snow storm at the end of April. One day sunny and warm the next looked like the North Pole.
