Overnight Visits?

Does Emory offer overnight visits for accepted students?

I didn't see it in the acceptance packet.

yes they do... call them and make a reservation.

what should one expect on an overnight visit? what do you do? do you sleep on the floor? are most of the hosts nice?

Yes, you sleep on the floor. And you better hope you get a clean host because one of my friends got a host that had dirty underwear and socks strewn all over the floor. But if you are lucky, you might get a host that will let you sleep on a bed because their roommate is gone.

The hosts are nice. But they probably will abandon you and leave you to your own devices. It is a good thing I went with my friends because I would have been left alone to do whatever. I was locked out of my room for the entire day which is why I have a cold now because I could not go and get my jacket at night.

I went on the Essence of Emory overnight thing so I can't tell you what to expect on a real overnight. But you might be able to visit classes like I did, maybe with your host since it is not group schedule. But I don't really know about this part.

The thing you have to understand is that your hosts are full-time college students and hosting is not something they do regularly or often. Just like you are busy at school and with extracurriculars, so are they. Which is not to say that they don't want to hang out with you, but most Emory students do have a lot going on in their lives. The solution: be proactive. Ask to meet your host's hallmates/friends, see what classes you can go to with your host or their friends, ask if you can go to this meeting or to eat with your host and his/her friends. Also, if you have nothing to do, take the time to walk around and explore-go to the Carlos Museum, Lullwater Park, the Math/Science building (which is gorgeous). You can also just sit around and take in the people around you-listen to what they're talking about, etc, to get a feel for the place.

can you do an overnight visit if you are considering applying Binding ED? (and thus are not yet accepted?)

overnight visit is offered at anytime. you just have to goto emory website and sign up for them 2 weeks prior to your desired dates.

its pretty cool because you get free meals and attend classes. my host and his friends took me to kroger at like 1 AM. that was pretty awesome adventure.

yay! thank you dru!

wait i cant find the page for overnight visits on the emory website.....

thanks!! :)

Hey guys,

So I checked that website above and there is no longer any information about Emory overnight visits. I’m almost positive they still offer overnight visits (especially if you’re applying ED II as I am…).
Does anyone know where I can get information on the overnight visits? I’ll be sure to call the admissions office tomorrow but I was looking for something online to reference.

Another question, anyone visited Emory overnight? What’s your opinion?

Thanks guys
