I am flying out to Tufts during late October, and have arranged for an overnight stay through the Tufts Connection thing. The only problem is that I don't know the time frame of these visits, and I can't find it anywhere on their site and my e-mail hasn't sparked any responses. I can take two flights from Michigan to Boston, one arriving at around 1 pm and the other around 7pm. Which flight should I take? Do I visit the classes the day I arrive or the second day? Thanks for your help.

Hi, good for you! October is lovely in New England! The air is crisp and clean, the leaves are crunching underfoot... enjoy!

I would give the admissions office a call and find out for sure. My guess is the 1 pm one would give you time to get onto campus, find your host and hang out for a bit before dinner. You'd have the evening to experience a typical night as a Tufts student (Check out a concert or show? Sit in on an Leonard Carmichael Society or No-Homers Club meeting? Head into Harvard Square or Boston? Get in on a game of Texas Hold 'em with my son? Participate in the never-ending debate: "Beirut or Beer Pong?"). You'd have the next day free to sit in on a few classes, chat with some professors, perhaps even go to the Admissions Building for your interview.

Have fun at Tufts!

is it typical to interview on campus?

7 pm would just be late - it would be around 8 (at least) by the time you make it to Tufts. Logan can be a nightmare.

Anyway... interviewing. You can probably interview on campus. About 80% of applicants interview with alums. As far as I know, you can do both. I'm an alumna interviewer... almost certain that you can (and probably should) do both.

JJsMom gives a great "to-do" list. Heck, you're flying all the way out there - may as well make the most of it! Arrive on campus around two, meet your host, walk around, eat dinner in the dining hall, and grab a coffee at Brown and Brew.

Will you be around for Homecoming? Think I might be enough of a nerd to be there for that! (Actually, Brown & Brew hot chocolate is really the allure, not Tufts football. :) )

there are no on-campus interviews

I know my kid was interviewed locally by an alum, but I always thought there HAD to be on campus interviews available. Well, I was apparently wrong! I remember kj saying in a previous post that he worked in the admissions office, so I defer to him.

So, the good news is that now there's no need to worry about alloting time for that darn interview! Now the OP has more time available to get to Brown and Brew, as per Aries! :) My personal favorite: the Boston skyline view from the roof of the library. :)

And for those who simply can't visit campus, here's a slideshow of Tufts pix (and no, I did NOT take these photos, they were taken by "Gojumbos," a semiregular CC poster and current Tufts student): http://community.webshots.com/slideshow?ID=140854017&key=KuVlAl

Thanks you guys, I have arranged my flight and am arriving in Boston around 1pm and leaving the next day at 5:30pm, so I think I should have ample time to check the wonderful campus out. I visited last spring and really loved it, but I believe before applying ED II, I must do one last final survey. I will definately check out Brown and Brew when I am there.

For all Jumbos (present or future)... I may be hanging about campus sometime during October (meandering on home for a bit)... so drop a PM if you would like to meet up for hot chocolate. (Yes, it's sad... just miss Brown and Brew.)

I'd like to meet you in your beloved Brown and Brew :)

lol i love Brown and Brew! especially the name. But is Brown and Brew hot chocolate that much better than Hodgdon?....I just ask b/c i live in South and it's annoying to go all the way to Brown and Brew haha
