What are some overrated and underrated majors?

I'd say Philosophy is an underrated liberal arts major. I'd say engineering can be overrated, all things considered.

Your turn.

What are some overrated and underrated majors?

I'd say Philosophy is an underrated liberal arts major. I'd say engineering can be overrated, all things considered.

Your turn.

math is underrated and everything else is overrated

Sociology is underrated.

Commerce is overrated, particularly at my school. I’ve taken some econ classes with commerce students and a lot of them seem to think that they’re going to be the next 25 year old CEO of some internet company or maybe work at Goldman Sachs and in both cases retire at 35 … (and all this time a lowly liberal arts student beat them by 20%+ on the midterms). I also kind of hate the attitude that is instilled in them - that every social situation ever is a networking opportunity. It’s like, I’m your friend, I’ve known you for years, and you still leave phone messages and sign your emails to me with your full name (plus the pompous middle initial). Part of me wants to scream “get a life”.

Underrated… probably math and philosophy. I’ve taken courses in both, and although neither of them are my major subject I would love to have time to explore them.

how is engineering overrated? i would say math is underrated

Philosophy is the must underrated major by far.

People who underrate philosophy and mathematics as majors are idiots. It’s as simple as that.

Overrated - business
Underrated - Math

Overrated: Business particularly marketing
Underrated: Statistics.

Marketing? Not a chance…

Underrated: Any business major that isnt full of CEO wannabes. People who love business for what it is, not for fame and moolah.

journalism seems to be extremely overrated, considering that most people have told me i would be better off majoring in english rather than journalism.

Neuroscience is definitely one of the most underrated.

Nursing seems overrated.

What can you do with a philosophy degree? I was told majoring in philosophy is rather useless. I need something to back up philosophy when people say it’s useless, so what should I say?

overrated:Business,accounting
underrated:math,physcis,petroleum

what can you do with neuroscience?

I really don’t think engineering is overrated at all. The ability to understand the theory behind natural phenomena, have extremely strong analytical abilities, and also be able to model and approximate and design with great proficiency are all incredibly useful skills.

I do think economics can be overrated in some ways.

Overrated: Finance and Economics (not everyone can be Warren Buffett)

Underrated: Engineering (everyone still don’t appreciate the talent and work ethic needed to be an engineer. plus if you are competent you will always have a job since the demand is so high)

yucca- neuroscience is probably the most rapidly growing science in the world right now. There is infinite potential for breakthroughs and discoveries, seeing as how the brain is probably the most important aspect of the human race, yet we know so little about it.

Research seems like the ideal profession, but there’s alot of potential in the fields of psychology and medicine as well.

Neuroscience is also the most interesting science ;)

I’m not sure whether we’re talking in terms of being interesting, profitable, etc., but:

Neuroscience is definitely underrated (in the sense that not enough people know anything about it - most people who do know about it see its significance).
Business is overrated.

Overrated:
Finance (a worthless pseudoscience at the undergrad level), anything Business or commerce related at the UG level

-you’d think all the careerist, anti-intellectual lacoste wearing douches would realize the laws of supply and demand, i.e. there’s a positive supply shock of business majors in the job market

Music production-worthless, you can’t learn music production in the classroom.

Underrated: Industrial design (VERY lucrative despite being a fine art), Philosophy, cognitive science, physics, pure math, quant. economics, english.
