I don’t think econ’s overrated. Probably because I’m an econ major…who plans to go work in finance and then go to law school. (I know, gasp! most people are like finance, then MBA, then more finance, then more finance till I die…I’m like, no) And yes, I fully intend to practice law.

I don’t know. Econ seems genuinely interesting…sometimes. It strikes me as a more money-oriented version of sociology, when I hear people talk about it.

overrated: a major that people think can land them a job right after graduation, and they’re set for life. in general, business. most people probably think this field will never run out of jobs, but since so many people are doing business now, it’s just going to get even more competitive.

underrated: i’d say generally liberal arts degrees. or degrees where people think it’s useless just because it doesn’t lead to a direct career path.

Women’s Studies

Of course that’s underrated, BO5TON… how long can one really study baking and driving badly for?
(Don’t lynch me, it was a joke I swear! :P)

Soooo true hahaha

I know this is going to be unpopular, but I think in the grand scheme of things Math is one of the most overrated majors out there. It obviously depends upon the program and curriculum, but I think there are better options for quantitatively oriented people.

I would say CS is probably one of the most underrated majors. Nobody around here outside of CS seems to take anything about it seriously, which I find more than a little frustrating.

underrate: Electrical engr, computer engr, computer sci, physics, math

overrate: civil engr, industrial and system engr, business, econ, pre-whatever, bio-whatever

underrated: engineering
overrated: everything else

So how does a math/econ major look?

Engineering ain’t all that.

Pre-anything is overrated.

Overrated: Film/Acting Majors. BTW I am a film production major.

It is overrated for the same reasons business is: people think they’ll be the next big thing very early like Josh Schwartz.

Most film majors are middle class people, not millionaires.

Underrated: Anthropology/Theology/Philosophy

way overrated: bioengineering

Hahahahaha

Hahahaha

Hahahahaha

Oh wait, you weren’t joking?

I would agree that philosophy is far and away the most underrate major out there, as proven by Formidable.
Anybody disagree that math is overrated as a major?

I would disagree that math is overrated; it might not be as much work as engineering/the sciences as it doesn’t have that many labs, but I think it’s just as hard. It’s great at preparing you for things like engineering, computer science, actuarial science, law, finance, etc due to the awesome critical thinking and problem solving skills you gain. Obviously, you could have a really light, really easy math major program, but that could happen to any other major.

I’ve never said that philosophy is an underrated major. I think it’s a totally worthless major as an undergraduate.

How in the world is math overrated as a major? It’s a great major to just about anything and also go to grad school with.

One of my majors is Geography and I believe that it is very underrated. There is more to Geography than reading and making maps. Plus, there are a variety of related careers: [Association of American Geographers](http://www.aag.org/Careers/What_can_you_do.html) .
