My daughter is finishing her freshman college year as a voice performance major, German minor. She is adamantly passionate about her music, but also has a love for German. She has found a semester program in Salzburg, Austria to do her second semester sophomore year. We're still in research mode on the program and talking to a lot of teachers and administrators at her school. It is not a school sponsored program, she would be doing it on her own. But several teachers have encouraged her to do an overseas music program.

Is there anyone who has sent their child overseas for a semester (or more) and can you give me your take on overseas programs?

My daughter did IES program in Vienna which her school did sponsor. She took German which was required for all at whatever level from beginner to advanced, had private voice lessons, studied music history and had music performance workshop class in which everyone had at least two recital performance opportunities, usually as part of duets or mini-scenes. Being in Vienna and attending the opera on a regular basis - Volksoper/Statsoper plus rehersals and performances of the Vienna Philharmonic was an outstanding experience! Easy to visit Salzburg from Vienna as well as Prague and Budapest. It is a glorious city, so you might want to check this out.

bookmama22: My S has applied for the summer version of this program- I will be in touch if he is accepted!
