ngxxxx. First congrats on your acceptance. DAAP is a top school in the US and is hard to get into.

To answer your questions, most professors are fine and know their stuff. Yes, I am sure that a few may not be a computer savvy as they should, but most are fine. In fact, I would bet that at all schools there are some professors that kids don’t like.

Second: Living conditions on campus are fine and safe. Like any big city, you still should be careful and keep your wits about you. Off campus is a bit more sketchy, and I don’t recommend living off campus near the school.

Third: the coop program was amazing for my daughter. As for finding a permenant job, about one-third of applicants get job offers as a result of coop if the companies really liked their performance. However, finding a job is primarily the student’s responsibility. No school will guarantee a student a job in the field. However, the experience garnered from the coops will put you way ahead of most other students in the same field from other schools.

Hello! ngXXXX, I am so happy you commented. I am from Japan and really want to get into DAAP’s Interior Program… what is your GPA and TOEFL score? What do you think got you in? And taxguy… I was just reading their international undergrad requirements and saw that they require an SAT, ACT or UC Math Placement Test (MPT) to apply for a program in DAAP, but if I take that it’s going to take a while until I get the results… the next ACT test date is December 10 and for the SAT it’s November 5. You say that it’s best to apply in August or early September and I am panicking! I know I should have looked into it earlier, but I saw on their website that the deadline for Fall is August 1st, so I thought I had plenty of time… It seems like I really don’t. Do you think I would still have a chance? My GPA is more or less 3.6 and my TOEFL score is 108/120 (they require a minimum of 79/120)

and by the way, thank you so much for sharing all of this. Since I can’t visit the campuses myself, your posts have helped me a lot in deciding which schools to apply to.

ngxxx UC’s interior design program is top notch and is widely considered among the best in the US. So take the offer and never look back.

Sora, When I started this thread , it was several years ago. UC has changed their policies and allow for later submission of applications. However,Thus, you don’t need to do this in August. However, I certainly would check their site for recommended time lines and probably would get it out by the end of September.

As for your gpa, you are fine. Just do well on the ACT or SAT. UC is very concerned with class rankings. If you are in the top 10-20% of your class, you won’t have to worry as much about your GPA or even SAT. In fact, the higher up you are in the rankings, the less the other factors count.

The use of unweighted gpa, class rank and test scores (ignoring rigor of curriculum/AP/IB and quality of HS) seems to me to be a common feature of Ohio state Us.

I’d assumed it was because they’re so large that they can’t look at each app the way smaller LACs can, or perhaps for legal reasons to do with availability of APs and quality of schools?

It does hurt kids from “harder” schools and kids who choose difficult courses. But these kids get an advantage at other schools, so it goes.

So I’m an international student and I also want to be one of those students at the DAAP. I will retake the SAT this 1st Dec and take my first TOEFL this 28th Nov, so maybe I will apply around the middle of December. However, as written in the post, seems like DAAP is really competitive, so is there any chances for me to apply that late? =.= I want to study Interior Design there so much!!!

Besides, my family can only provide me about 15.000 - 20.000 per year for both tuition and living. I am really afraid it can decrease my chance as I know that international student must pay 30 000+ for average. UC doesn’t offer need-based financial aid for international, so the only aids we can get are from scholarships and loans, right? Ah! And I almost forgot that the co-op at UC is GREATTTT !!! So, if only by scholarships and co-op, can I gain enough money to pay for the living, so that my parents can only spend 15-20 000 per year?

My class size is 500 and fortunately, I’m in top 10%. My SAT best score so far is 1800 only I hope this time it will go around 2000.

Can you guys give me some advice Thank all of you a lot for reading my thread :)

I submitted my application for DAAP on October 24th. I am applying to the Industrial design program. My gpa is 3.85 and my sat is 2060 (cr+m 1370). I am in state.

When might I hear back from them?
Are my chances for acceptance good?
Does UC first admit me to the university then later to this program?

I recently finished my junior year of high school and I am interested in UC’s architecture program but I am unsure of my chances of getting in. I have a weighted gpa of 3.75, unweighted 3.4 with a 24 on my act (which I am taking again in the fall). I read the previous posts about the program but was wondering if there was any chance of being admitted into DAAP?

Shelbersrae, what is your class rank. If you aren’t in the top 10-15%, I would say that you have little chance. Sorry. You need to get that ACT up at least 4-5 points overall.

Hi! I am from India. My D has got admit in DAAP Architecture program starting fall 2015 and has been offered sch 5000 usd. She is being considered for better scholarship. My problem is if she is offered a good scholarship @ another univ like say TAMU or Cornell what should I do? Especially when financials matter a lot to us. Pl guide.
take the cheapest school net of scholarships. However, you also need to filter in the fact that UC students will start paid internships after their sophomore year. Thus, it will lower the cost even more.
like taxguy said consider the co-ops. my daughter just finished her sophmore year. she just had her first co-op this spring and the money she made will help her pay for the all the supplies she needs for her summer semester and she lives off campus and it will pay for groceries and her share of utilitites in the room she is renting.
so i have a question. is there someplace on campus or someone to contact that could help with portfolios? i know the career center will help with resumes…do they have someone that will help with portfolios?
