^^As a matter of fact, “overwhelmingly” is equivalent to “primarily” in the sense that I used it. Your definition is for “overwhelming,” which is an adjective. I said “overwhelmingly,” which is an adverb. Therein lies the difference. Also, answers.com’s definition for “overwhelm” includes “To surge over and submerge; engulf” and “To present with an excessive amount.” While these are not the only definitions, this is the manner in which I intended “overwhelmingly” to be interpreted.

whether it is an adjective or adverb doesn’t make a difference for this word, nor does it for most words; they just modify different parts of the sentence.

is this your alt, oracle?

I realized I’m apathetic about most things I do.

apparently you’re not apathetic about having dumb arguments on message boards, or you would not have even cared to return. we can keep this up if you want my sweet little oracle.

Yes, narkij, ThisCoulbBeHeavn is my alt. I laid out an argument refuting your assertions, and then logged in under a different name just to say “Yes it is.”

You know, once you are proven wrong, you don’t have to go on defending your argument. You can admit you were wrong. I’m not going to mock or deride you. I’ll only do that if you go on making arguments that are based overwhelmingly on fallacies.

^^Hey, who do you think you are trying to get this discussion back on track?

It was probably lost in the sea of grammar-related posts above, but as I stated a little earlier, it really isn’t that big a deal that I’m apathetic about college because, as I realized, I’m usually apathetic about most things. And there’s no question I’m going to college in the fall. I may be apathetic about college, but there’s nothing in particular I’d like to be doing in its place (nothing realistic, that is).

“I currently feel fear that I’ll flunk out”

When going in with this attitude keep in mind that your academic record stays with you forever. If you get lousy grades and quit or fluck out, then decide to return to school later, getting into your school of choice is going to be a lot more stressful.

Sorry man, but you definitely are not correct on this one. If you are “overwhelmingly apathetic” you are essentially stating that you are in the state of being overwhelmed by the lack of emotion/excitement you don’t feel. That is kind of contradictory.

Only on CC will repliers argue about the OP’s grammar for 3 pages while ignoring the f****n issue he originally posted.

I kinda feel the same way, I am hoping to get excited once I am there or sometime soon, I am not really a big fan of changes like these until I get used to them…

In what language? Primarily is equivalent to saying generally, especially, principally or predominately. Overwhelming means to be dominated by that sensation, there’s no possible way you can try to claim this but you can keep trying to argue, I’m done with this.

No one can tell you why living on your own, learning what you actually interested in doing, and getting the flexibility to design your own life and meet good looking members of the opposite sex is awesome, if you can’t see that than you either need to sit down and think about it or reconsider going to school, you shouldn’t need a message board for that.

It’s perfectly okay to feel apathetic. I think once you start classes and live on campus, you get the college feel going and your feelings will change.
