Owl program

is anyone applying for or have any information/past experience about the program?

My son did this last fall and was glad. He got into his dorm early so he could get settled and have an earlier pick of his bunk, closet, and desk space. One of his 3 roommates had already arrived (ROTC) so he was able to get to know him a bit before the other two arrived. His move-in was well organized and less pressured than if he’d moved-in at the same time as everyone else. He also got to roam around the town and get to the bookstore before the crowds arrived. He had the chance to start meeting people too. Being an OWL can give you a leg up with the residence hall staff in case you want to apply for an office assistant or RA spot the following year. It can even go on your resume. You should definitely go for it.

My d is also considering it. She heard that you also save the move-in fee. Does anyone know what it is?

I wasn’t aware of a move-in fee. However, the school does feed you for the days you are there early. My son was actually glad to leave early since nearly all of his friends had already left for their colleges in August.

The move-in fee is something charged to students who move in earlier than the official move-in date. It changes, but when I was a freshman I think it was $30/day.

If you’re an OWL you move in early free of charge, plus they feed you.

I was an OWL and I’d recommend it pretty much for the perks of getting settled early. Note that they keep you occupied with activities for pretty much the entire time before move-in.
