Lol, I'm sending you a PM.

I just got back from Owl Weekend, and I had a great time! I don't even know where to begin...who else was in Wiess?

cavelier - are you sold? sending your deposit?

Okay, here was my D's experience. She went to several events including the philharmonics ("they were SO good mom"), a party at Brown ("everyone was drunk and pretty funny -and NO I didn't drink anything although two of the girls I was with did - it was in a room and you could barely move so we stayed a bit and talked and when we couldn't breathe anymore we left"), swing dance lessons ("we couldn't get it so we left, LOL"), the band jam - I think that was what it was called ("we didn't get to hear what everyone said were the good bands, but it was okay"), some kind of improv ("it was so funny, mom, kinda like whose line is it anyway"), then the picnic (no real comment there except by the time that they got there there were no more s'mores.. only graham crackers and the punch was about gone). We are from PA and she hung out with two girls from Texas, one from New Jersey, and one from Philly. She really liked everyone..said it was so weird being somewhere where everyone was smart! She even signed up with one of the girls (an ED'er) for club soccer.. she said IF I go there... She really didn't see her host much.. said that was okay because she liked hanging around with the other "prosbies"..she really liked the college (Will Rice) set up but said she thought it was one of the more "laid back" colleges.. that Martel seemed to be the party place (D isn't much of a partier but she likes a lot going on.. i.e. she is not a drinker (might enjoy a wine cooler.. but beer - yuk!). Said she saw a few cute guys... When she called home it was hard to get a "feel" for what she was thinking. I asked if she thought she could be happy there for four years and it was like..nothing, LOL! When she got home we find out that she just LOVED the place..felt really at home but felt bad because of all the schools that she got accepted to Rice is going to cost us the most (by about 5,000/year)..she got some really nice scholarships to other schools... We told her we will figure the money out.. (LOANS GALORE!) if she felt that Rice was "It".. we asked her if she wanted to give the other schools a try..and she seemed kinda "blah" about it.. I said "D is Rice the one?" and her reply was a resounding YES!! SO, you are all the first to hear... D is going to be a Rice Owl next year. Jenskate: I hope you stay around here.. you were such a great source of info. for me and my D... Thanks again.

HOORAY! Welcome to Rice!!!!! :)

Funny she thought Martel was the party college. Lovett generally has that reputation. Will Rice certainly has the sober reputation. Whatever college she ends up at will have cool kids because everyone is placed randomly. And if she ends up at Lovett, I'll see her around lots!

The phils and spontaneous shows were great, I agree.

(PS. I really am quitting CC on the last day of classes. However, if you PM me, I'll give you my e-mail address, and you can pass it onto your daughter in case she has any questions over the summer)

For some reason I can't PM you until I edit my profile.. so I will definitely do that sometime next week. I am sure that D will have a lot of questions over the summer. Very sorry to hear that you are leaving CC - a lot of kids are going to miss out not having you around! (glad it wasn't us, LOL!)

jenskate, I'm niot sure yet; I've got to work out the money part, first! BTW, why are you leaving CC? You're so helpful. One of the current prospies who enrolls will have to take your spot!

After being recognized 3 times at Owl Weekend, and hearing enough from my roommate about my addiction to CC, I am willing to admit I have a problem (lol!). It's time for me to move on. :)

lsandin-
Just posted to your note on the parents forum. Your d. will have a wonderful time at Rice. My s. has had a great year. One of his good friends is in the Improv group (Spontaneous Combustion)-- If you followed the "cool mom" thread a few months back, you read about a few of my s's Rice friends who spent spring break with us on the ski slopes in Colorado. This friend (in the improv group) is one who spent some time with us. All a terrific group of kids. Congrats!! My s. had the same reaction when we left Rice after our visit/tour/interview fall of his senior yr.. He looked at me, said "this is it" and applied ED. I have never seen him happier. As a parent, who could ask for more..

Jenskate...

Perhaps we need a "college confidential anonymous" group...

My name is nspeds, and I am a college confidentaholic.

nspeds-
Don't laugh-- there already is one http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=40266&highlight=anonymous

I probably saw you at some point, jenskate, but I don't know what you look like. If I had seen you, however, I would have called you, "jenskate," haha.

jym626,

Oh man...

Well, it is rumored that my transfer decision will be mailed out on the 29th, so I might rid myself of such an addiction earlier.

ohh nooo--- all these abandonment issues to resolve..... everyone is leaving... oh noo.....
Please forgive my aging brain-- remind me nspeds, where are you transferring to/from?

cavalier - if you had called me jenskate, you would not have been alone. sigh...

No problem:) I am trying to transfer into Rice's philosophy program from HBU.

nspeds-
Houston Baptist U?? At least you won't have to move far :)

i was at martel, first floor though, i dunno if you saw me or not, but i was the really tall asian guy.

wow. Will Rice sucks.

It was interesting because my host was NOTHING like what I answered on my profile...in fact, she was the exact opposite. I didn't spend any time with her because I think she was studying the whole time...honestly, I think I spent about half an hour with her total... When I returned to the room in the middle of the night on Thursday and Friday, she wasn't even there (she told me earlier that she usually sleeps in the library...?!?). Fortunately, I know a couple of other people at Rice, so it didn't bother me. I spent my weekend at Lovett and Martel instead, and had a GREAT time. Went to the drag show, Jamfest, and thoroughly took advantage of those hammocks...I am addicted to hammocks.

UncleFeezus and I were in the same room. Lololol! It's a small world...
