Hi all--
After being spoiled by the easy-to-navigate CommonApp.org, I'm now filling out my app/UCAS app for Oxford. I have a question about the personal statements. Do I have to write two different ones, one for each, or can I just use the same one twice? The Oxford app says that the teacher reference can be the same as the UCAS one, but it doesn't specify about the Personal Statement.
Anyone familiar with this, please help!
Thanks

I'd do a different one. Why would they ask for the same essay twice? Check with someone that actually knows though, I'm just guessing.

As far as I remember the Oxford PS is optional and most people leave it blank (I did). If you have anything specific to add about Oxford, then use the space. You don't need to copy your UCAS PS because they get that one anyway.

You mean writing a different PS for UCAS and OAF? Unless it's different for Americans, the UCAS PS is the important bit, but if there's anything else you want to let them know, additional info type thing, then put it in the OAF. Roughly half of successful candidates leave that bit blank.

:) Thanks, everyone. I think that it may be mandatory for Americans, because we have a special application, and nowhere on the PS sheet or the app instructions does it say "optional". I'm glad someone out there knows what's going on (obviously not me, haha)!

Wait, there’s 2 separate apps? An UCAS one and an Oxford one? I thought there was only the UCAS one…I think I know even less than you, LunarChik, lol.

bugaboo - this thread was posted in 2006. The application process has since changed and I believe there is now only one form to fill in. I recommend you check on the Oxford website.

Oh, god, no wonder. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense now. What a d’oh moment. Haha, thanks cupcake.

Yeah, unless you’re applying to Cambridge, there’s only one form.
