Can a person be accepted into Oxford or Cambridge without interviewing? I heard that interviews are really important in England. I know people are allowed to apply but realistically, are they ever accepted?

I think the interviews are a required part of the process. So, no. That would be like getting accepted to an American college without writing required essays or something along those lines.

I could be wrong, though.

One of the people from my high school (who was later accepted) had
to fly over to the UK for the interview and was apparently interviewed
by 2/3 profs all at the same time who gave him a problem to do on the board…
just hearsay…do not know how true that was…

I think there are rare cases of phone interviews being allowed. but 99.9% of people are interviewed in person. It is basically the most important part of the admissions process. On the Cambridge web-site there are some videos of interview that show you what they are like.

You can be interviewed in the US but the bad news is the deadline for overseas interview applications was 20th September. the deadline for UK interview applications is 15 th October (for 2009 entry) so you’d better get applying! Note you can only apply to Oxford or Cambridge, not both in the same year.

Being interviews by 3 profs and writing on the borad - sounds pretty standard to me. I had to do math questions (and I studied Biology) on a white board for 2 profs.
