So I was wait listed at Emory College but accepted to Oxford College. I have major concerns. I know the campus is a little distant from main campus and it's a completely different atmosphere. But being able to graduate from Emory and attend there for two years sounds incredible (Emory is one of my dream schools).

Does anyone know anything about life at Oxford? (Specifically, premed).

pre-med is the same everywhere except that you do ACTUAL (as in, the lab and lecture portion will be more inquiry oriented) science at Oxford. So if you care for that and not just the standard pre-med science experience, you are in good hands (perhaps better than main campus and loads of other “top” research universities). Emory and other places (minus Harvard, Yale, Chicago, and Princeton) are rather traditional. Note that it is rigorous! It doesn’t appear to be the “coddle the pre-med” model that main campus employs (exception is general chemistry where sections give Fs to between 10 and 20% of students depending on teacher).

What about the social life?

It’s like an LAC, more quirky I suppose (okay, even Emory is to some degree, but we have the whole Greeklife thing going on). whenhen could probably answer better. But the point is, Oxford is essentially an LAC.

Can you describe specifically at Oxford about drinking/partying?

Again, that’s for aig or whenhen to do. I imagine it’s probably similar to main but more “house party” oriented and not Greek/bar centered, but I don’t want to assume. If you wanted the bar/Greek centered stuff, make friends on main ASAP and go over on weekends. Lots of Oxford students interested in that sort of thing do just that.

While Oxford does have a large drinking scene, it’s not a party school. If students want to party with alcohol, they essentially have to go to the Main campus. Since this is inconvenient and open frat parties at Emory are generally sweaty messes, most students choose to drink in the dorms. The typical drink of choice is a handle of whatever liquor Oxford students could convince that one friend with a fake ID to buy and hopefully a chaser from Lils. A number of Oxford students also look forward to tavern parties which are events put on by social clubs (Oxford’s version of Greek life) in which the goal is to get as hammered as possible before entering the dance. Typically, these can best be described as a sh1t show.

Additionally, “going to the woods” is a popular past time at Oxford. That’s basically Oxford speak for, “want to smoke/ vape an impressive amount of marijuana”?

LOL the social scene at Oxford is pretty great (coming from a current freshmen). By the end of first semester everyone does get to know everyone on campus. almost everyone finds a really close knit group of friends here on campus. and TBH, the partying/ drinking scene on the oxford campus is VERY prominent in various aspects… just as long as you dont get caught since almost everyone is underage… LOL. Tavern parties range from great to ■■■■■■. The social scene at Oxford is really up to you and what you make of it. But the best part is that we have access to both Oxford and Main campus’ events. So there are tavern parties here at oxford but also frat parties on main. like next week chance the rapper is performing at main and the week after T-Pain is coming to oxford. Oxford really isnt as boring as some ppl say it is.
