Oxford College Dorms?

Hi, I've just been accepted to Oxford College of Emory University.
Unfortunately, I won't have a chance to visit before housing forms are due.

Could anyone tell me (insiders esp) about all the residence halls? (The nicest, the cleanest, most convenient, which ones to avoid, pros and cons of each residence hall)
I know Fleming Hall is being built right now, and that would be the cleanest, no doubt. But what are the other dorms like?
Thanks!

Congratulations on being accepted to Oxford! East Village (whatever they’re calling them now) are the newest and many prefer those. I lived in Haygood both years, which is right beside the dining hall. JRC is pretty good too. For the most part, people just tried to avoid Beast, which believe is being torn down this summer for the new science building.

Remember. of course, that none of the residence halls are that far from the others.

I was just at Oxford for a visit and was able to spend the night in East Village. It was clean, new, and laundry/bathrooms/etc were conveniently located.

Assuming Aigiqinf is right and Beast (Branham & East) is finally being torn down, you can’t go wrong with any of the residence halls. I lived in Haygood and the JRC. Though the rooms were a bit nicer in Haygood, there was a greater sense of community in the JRC, possibly owing to the greater number of students who live there. Haygood is a bit farther away from most of the classes (although this is Oxford, so that basically means an extra minute walk to class) but closer to the Tavern and the dining hall. East Village is currently the nicest dorm on campus, although Flemming Hall will likely surpass it when it opens in the Fall.

Thank you so much for your feedback!
I was wondering, is there any way to express your preference on the housing form when it comes out?
Are there qualities I should list in order to increase my chances at East Village?

I’ve been wondering the same thing too! How did you guys end up getting JRC, east village, or haygood for both years? I feel like most freshman get the beast halls… Am i correct?

No. I filled out my roommate preference form before freshman year and was assigned a room in Haygood. Second semester I managed to get a single in the JRC via a different process than what entering freshmen do. When rising sophomores apply for housing they choose among the dorms that haven’t been blocked off for next year’s freshmen (these rooms are blocked off in all buildings, not just the JRC or Beast).

Also Beast will be torn down in the summer, so don’t worry about being forced to live there.

sophomores just applied for housing within the last two days. rooms in each dorm are purposely saved for freshmen. the dorm assignment process is completely random and is mainly based on when you submitted your myhousing application. There’s practically no way for a freshmen to specify which dorm you want. you have to wait till you’re a sophomore to be able to choose which dorm you live in and even then it is based on a lottery when your time slot is to choose a room. All the dorms are great though. Haygood has some of the biggest rooms on campus and is the closest to Lils while JRC has a great family community. Yeah, EV and fleming are the newest dorms but you come to learn that where you live really doesnt effect your college experience. And Beast is being torn down in early May for the new science building. i live in EV this year and was lucky enough to get EV next year too but I totally would have been fine with any other building. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor. Oxford will literally be one of the most interesting/ best experiences in your life.
