random question: does oxford have a rec gym for students to use whenever they have free time?

yup--I've seen it, and it's pretty good

After reading around I think that Oxford is one of my top choices right now for college. It seems like a great deal and I love the idea of a smaller campus at first. Can some of you guys post your high school scores and such? I think I might be a tad under what they want but I am not sure if other strengths of mine would outweigh my weaknesses… good luck to the class of 2012 though!

Wait what? Are all Oxford students guaranteed transfer admissions to Emory? This sounds too good to be true.

yes hewhothrows

oxford is part of emory after all
it's a pretty well-kept secret

LL34 - there was a thread for "stats" of those accepted to Oxford
my scores: 1420/2120 SAT, 13 APs, 4.6W (3.4 UW), etc

Ox is NOT for the dumber, here's the deal...I have counterparts at the atlanta campus who graduated from the same high school as me and we all graduated Magna Cum. We are all bright individuals and it doesn't matter what the institution it matters how hard YOU work. It is an individual journey. And what about the kids at Ox who do better later on against Emory students? The admissions would have dismissed some brilliant minds over acronyms...SAT GPA etc. of course those are important but these days the importance of those has gone out of control.

does anyone know whether international students are eligible for the oxford scholarships? Thanks!

I have a 3.0 and an 1880. Oxford material?

^^ yeah, i’m in somewhat of the same position… someone help?

For anyone wondering about getting into Oxford, here’s my stats:

(After getting rejected from Emory, and then encouraged to apply to Oxford)
Also, sorry, but since i’m in a rush, I’ll just minimize the less-important/major details

Rank 230s/700
GPA 3.09/4.0 and 4.8/6.0
(pretty low? yessss)
Course Rigor - probably the hardest of my school (only top 10 people matched it, but I’m the only one that did nothing, hence the low grades)
ACT 35/36
SAT2s Math II - 780 Chinese - 790

This should say something about that “Oxford Intelligence” factor since I’m a waitlist, LOL

ECs not bad
President of Spanish NHS
former VP of Japanese Animation Society
member of etc. etc.
won awards at various local competitions etc etc
major recognitions? Performed a few solos at Carnegie Hall throughout the years? (i guess)

About Oxford…I just got waitlisted.

i’ve heard both good and bad about that place.

My current stats/plans consist of:

I definitely plan to graduate with either major/minor in Psychology. However, that won’t be my bread&butter. Lately, I’ve been thinking of doing Business, because it just so happens that the places I’ve been considering all have good business schools. I’m taking that as an omen?

Aside from my waitlisted status at Oxford, the schools I’m currently considering are:

UT Austin - got into Psychology major, chances of internal transfer and/or double major with McCombs??

SMU - 30,000 scholarship, maybe I’ll apply to their Honors College if I stay

Oxford - waitlisttttt…

I also have additional questions. Regarding social/activity life:

Are there organizations that I can join and take leadership positions in? If so, wouldn’t they still be gone when I transfer to Emory? Also, could I participate in Greek life at Emory and obtain positions there?

Could I start a club/organization at Emory while at Oxford?

Thanks!! Also, any advice one what I should choose?

You were probably waitlisted only because you applied Rolling Admission.

Yes. Yes. Oxford has social groups… I don’t think you can participate in Greek life at the Atlanta campus while at Oxford.

I doubt it… though I don’t see why you would want to.

Do you mean, what other school should you deposit at while waiting to hear if you are admitted off the Oxford waitlist?
