Can one of you mods make an Oxford College sub-forum? Or at least make this one of those "IMPORTANT" threads? People could post useful links and info here for everyone who's curious about what Oxford is.

Here's a review of my visit to Oxford that I wrote a while ago:

My visit of Oxford wasn't too informative because I visited in the early morning of Saturday (so no one was up and the offices were closed). It was worth it though because I got to see the surrounding town and the campus itself. Here are my impressions of the Oxford Campus:
-I loooooove the campus because it reminds me a lot of Virginia
-The grounds are kept in very good shape
-The theater looks sort of like a mini Kennedy Center
-The campus is really, really beautiful
-There is a lot of forestry around the campus and some classes are in the woods (stress management for instance) which I think is pretty cool
-I saw a few campus police here and there (here's a link with a pic of them: Oxford College - Campus Safety)
-The town is really small

Not too helpful lol, but it's better than nothing.

To everyone reading this, please post any information and helpful links regarding Oxford that you know about.

That first thread that you posted had lot of folks who have this sucky attitude about oxford:| but anyway, the links are helpful for those students who have questions about the school

some of the comments left about oxford on those threads are pretty disturbing. I do not want to think about it but to a certain extent I can believe in what those people are saying. I am extremely saddened by that.

It’s not all bad, just look at pecosim24’s posts. I think most of the negative stuff comes from people who view Oxford as a backdoor into Emory. Also keep in mind that a lot of people have negative views of every college, so negative things said about Oxford are probably not unique to Oxford

^Steven, are you going to oxford next year? If nothing else comes up thats where I think I will end up. Are you going to bring a car over there? I am not and I am really afraid of complete isolation for the entire year since it is in a pretty remote location. Thats what disturbs me the most.

Yup I’m going there in the fall. I’m not bringing a car though because I live all the way in Oregon. I’m not too worried about being bored because I’ll be busy with studying, learning an instrument (hopefully), clubs, video games, and hanging out with friends.

^ Hmm, I like your attitude. By the way, since you said you live all the way in oregon, how easy will it be for you to leave during every major holiday? I think there are more than a few on which oxford residences need to be vacated.

Yeah I think I need to vacate on Thanksgiving, winter break, spring break, maybe easter? maybe another I’m forgetting about. I’ll probably stay in a hotel during most/all of the breaks (except summer lol). I’m thinking about going home for each of the winter breaks, but plane fees are getting more and more ridiculous so I’m not sure if that will happen.

yeah, the airplane ticket prices are ridiculous, however, I doubt that hotel prices are going to be any less ridiculous. If its like 50 dollars a day, which I think it will be, in 10 days that’s 500 and 20 days 1000 dollars. This is a raw estimate definitely but it is something worth considering.

In any case, dont they have any international students? where are they going to go? My family lives nearly 6,000 miles away and there is no way I will be able to go there during every break and pay almost $2000 in tickets. At the end of each year that way I would probably have to pay $10,000 dollars only for transportation. Maybe I should look for some hotels in the area. Do they want us to take all the stuff with us? if yes, I think it is Insane.

I hope not lol. I don’t know, but I assume not because like you said, that would be insane; especially if you’re only gone for a week or two.

And even if the hotel costs 50 a night then 10 nights of that would be the price of one round trip ticket (for me at least). Also, I heard that sometimes people get together and they rent out a room and sleep in sleeping bags to save lots of moolah.

I’m not sure what internationals do during break, but I think that there are advisers for international students who you could contact and ask.

I just received a response from their housing office and they said that the vacating of the residences is mandatory Only during the winter break and summer break (unless you take summer courses). They said that during the fall break, thanksgiving break and spring break we may choose not to leave. I still have to ask them whether we have to take all the stuff with as at least on those two big breaks.

You only have to take your things home for the summer. Winter break, you can leave things in the dorm. They only ask that the fridge is empty and appliances unplugged.
